Radon in granite countertops?!?
Has anyone heard about this?
NY Times article
I wanted to put granite in my kitchen this spring... now I'm rethinking it. Thoughts?

Re: Radon in granite countertops?!?
I didn't read the article, but I bought a house with alot of granite in the kitchen. When we did the house inspection, the house was tested for Radon, and nada.

Re: Radon in granite countertops?!?
I work for a popular high end granite company and when this article came out boy did it travel fast! I have suppliers all of the word and we've all "united" so to speak to work with MIA to get the true facts about granite out. While I will not disagree with the fact that some granite can emit radon, my company (prefer not to say who) checks every slab that comes from every quarry. The MIA knows that this was started by a silestone company who is trying to take the business away from the granite suppliers. The reason you don't hear to much from local companies is because the MIA has instructed us not to and to let them fight this battle. Again, I am just speaking from experience with my company I'm not sure about everyone else.

Do most granite companies test for radon?
Does the likeliness matter based on the kind of granite (exotic, vs run of the mill basic granite)?

Re: Radon in granite countertops?!?
How would one go about testing their countertops to see if they have granite? I rent, so I have no idea where they came from

I'd be intersted to know the answer to that, also.
