Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff
Pres-Elect Obama has begun the difficult task of picking staff. Looks like Rahm Emanuel is going to be Chief of Staff.

I am intrigued, but not yet decided how I feel about this.

Re: Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff
I'm sort in the middle on this choice. I don't think he was the worst choice at all, but I really don't think he was the best choice either. He has a reputation for being very abrasive, which may not help him bring the parties together. At the same time, he also has a reputation for getting things done - so maybe his style is not so bad after all... I just don't know.
I do kind of feel that this choice came out of left field... at the same time, though, I think there were far worse choices Obama could have made.
I guess I don't love him or hate him.

Re: Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff
to your points Kara, I am sort of glad he picked him for CoS (rather than some other post)...since he will be more IN the White House than anywhere else....so his partisanship may not be as much of an issue.

Re: Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff
Interesting point, Ophelia. I see what you are saying. Chief of Staff is a very powerful position in most administrations, though... often the President's gatekeeper and top advisor.
Again, I don't think he's the most partisan choice or even a terrible choice, though I don't think he's a moderate. I'm sort of on the fence about it. I wasn't expecting it I guess. I don't really have strong feelings either way about him yet.

Re: Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff
He has a strong relationship to Israel. I would think that is a VERY strong reason to have picked him.
Remember, Obama has very little International Political experience. That being said, I don't like that he served on Clinton's team.

he was very involved along with Clinton in the Oslo accord and in the historical meeting (and handshake) of Rabin & Arafat.
I have mixed feelings about the Palestinian/Israeli conflict. so this is going to play out in an interesting way for me.
