Random Poll - Sharing the baby's name

The other post had me curious ... so let's have a poll just for fun.

Will you be telling your friends/family the baby's name (or name options) before he/she is born?

Random Poll - Sharing the baby's name

We have a couple of names for each gender and are not sharing with anyone. I don't want to hear any opinions!

Haha - now I am no longer sure! We were sharing possible name choices but that just made us more confused!!!! I think I am leaning towards No in the future.

Random Poll - Sharing the baby's name

Yes we told everyone but I also am not one to keep my mouth closed if they say they don't like it. It is my child and will name my child what I seen fit.

The only comment we got was a great aunt asking if we made the name up. I just laughed it off because of who it was coming from.

For DS1, we shared one name from our "possibly" list with my family and they made us feel horrible about it, saying it's terrible and he'd be teased all the time and all this other stuff (the name was Simon, for the record ... not like we were gonna call him Batman or something).

Anyway, after that, we stopped sharing names and will never share again.

Crashing but with DS we pretty much told everyone who had asked. MIL had a problem with it since I was not naming DS after DH. But I didn't care.

My BIL on the other hand would not let anyone know the name before their DD was born and now they are expecting #2 and are still not letting anyone know.

Random Poll - Sharing the baby's name

we shared one name and found out why we COULDNT choose it. lol

then we just shared our girl & boy name choices at the reveal (stickers Team Rory & Team Cayleigh). only a few people knew before that.

we are saving middle names for surprising our families at birth.

we haven't heard anything bad yet!

We didn't tell anyone with DD. I didn't want to have anyone else's opinion in my head. We love her name and have only ever heard positive things rather than having memories of anyone saying anything remotely negative before she was born.

We plan to do the same this time if we ever settle on a name! The only thing that will be tricky is that I once read my list to DD and she picked her favorite and now always says that's the baby's name. One problem is she picked a boy name and we're team green. The other is if anyone asks her she'll probably tell them. DH and I like the name being that we put it on our list but we have not decided on anything. Although it would be pretty cute to know that she picked the name and it's kind of getting hard to not think of that as the name, lol.

Re: Random Poll - Sharing the baby's name

When I was pregnant with DS we shared his name beforehand. We got so many opinions on his name and stirred up a lot of controversy. Next time I'd like to keep the name a secret until the baby is born.

Re: Random Poll - Sharing the baby's name

When I was pregnant with DS we told everyone the name in part because we used a name I had loved since HS and had already told people over the years was my favorite boys name. Everyone told us they loved it -- only negative comment we got was from one grandma who questioned whether it was masculine enough. Maybe because we told them it WAS the name we avoided the negative comments. When people asked girl names we had considered nd I mentioned a few we got all kinds of negative comments Chat Icon

This time around I toyed with keeping the name a secret until the end, and at a minimum wanted to keep it a secret until we had decided on a name (I did not want everyone to give their opinions) but with 2 weeks to go until my EDD we still dont have the name final anyway so its a secret. It's sooooo annoying having people ask me 24/7 if we have a name yet though.

That's such a cute idea! Love it!

Random Poll - Sharing the baby's name

I was very open about the name the first time and this time- I've gotten a lot of comments (both times), but I just say, "don't name your son that" and call it a day. I have thick skin when it comes to the names I pick!

Re: Random Poll - Sharing the baby's name

We were Chat Icon so we shared the names we had selected for each gender. If we knew the gender then we might not share, so there would be some element of surprise once the baby got here. Even if we knew the gender and had a name I would not be comfortable referring to the baby by name before it got here, so again, less apt to share.

Re: Random Poll - Sharing the baby's name

We did.

DH and I are very decisive so we knew, the moment we were pregnant, a boy name and a girl name.

Then, when we found out the gender (boy) we were like OK - it's a boy! and it was like yay - Julian Kenneth Chat Icon

Everyone is different and if someone is on the fence about a name or likes to keep things as a surprise that's cool -- but to us, it was SO open and shut that he would be Julian Kenneth that we just shared right away.

Random Poll - Sharing the baby's name

We had a boys name and a girls name picked as soon as we found out we were expecting. We were very open about the names we picked and pretty much told people that we didn't care what they thought about them lol.

We told both times. To tell you the truth, my son's name might be different had we not bc DH took opinions to heart so I get why people don't tell.

Random Poll - Sharing the baby's name

We have shared names that we like, but we haven't made a final decision yet. We probably won't have her name picked until she is born.

We didn't share and we won't in the future.

People always have something to say and I didn't want to hear it.

Re: Random Poll - Sharing the baby's name

We are very indecisive & I don't think we'll even have a name picked out for certain until the very last minute, so for that reason I might tell people what names we like if they ask, but I don't think I'd be able to say it with 100% certainty because I could definitely see us changing our minds.

Random Poll - Sharing the baby's name

I tell my mother everything! Even she isn't going to know the name until it's born. I don't want anyone saying they hate the name. Once it's the baby's name they'll have to suck it up and love it.

This was confirmed last week. I was complaining my really good friend used the only boys name I really like that goes with Jason as a middle name, Lucas. Both my parents said they were glad and made a face. This just confirmed I'm not telling anyone the baby's name.

Re: Random Poll - Sharing the baby's name

We shared our DD name with everyone. Couldn't come up with a reason not to. We had registered for a few things that were either personalized or monogrammed, so they would find out anyway.
I truthfully didn't care what people thought. And if someone did bring up a point that was a valid reason why I shouldn't have named her that, I would rather know before she was born. Luckily for us, we didn't really get any negative comments. Almost everyone said they liked it.
If we have another baby we will share again.
