Rant: The Children's Place
I got a ton of clothes from The Children's Place at my shower, and alot of them just weren't my taste. Some came with a receipt, while others did not. I went to the store to bring everything back, and they would only take the clothes with the receipt! They wouldn't even give a store credit for the other clothes, and said their policy is that I could only exchange for a different size of the exact same item (most of which were not even in the store anyway!). I explained that I wanted to pick out something else that I liked, and they wouldn't allow it!!!!! I hate that place!

Re: Rant: The Children's Place
This happened to me a few years ago. DS was given a lot of clothes for his bday without any gift receipts. Most of it was ugly & I was unable to return it. I ended up donating it & now I refuse to shop there.

I can see their point only because many steal clothes and return them for store credit. Stores have changed their policies due to this.

yes same has happened to me. It's so annoying. I am finding it harder and harder to return at more and more places. Carters won't give a credit anymore w/out receipts. I had to spend $80 there that day. So hard since I was returning stuff I didn't want lol

There is no receipt. That is why they were giving me a problem. They won't even offer a store credit. I have no control over the fact that some people did not gift me the items with a receipt. That was out of my control.

Really? This is the first time I've ever experienced this. The worst case scenario I've seen was that since there was no receipt, I was only given the value of the item at that time. For example, I was gifted something from Baby Gap that was actually bought last year, and only got $1.60 for it, lol

Re: Rant: The Children's Place
I had a similar experience with Babies r Us. I think that a lot of children's stores do this to prevent theft and people returning out of "season" clothing. Their seasons turn over very quickly so what you buy one week will be massively discounted the next. In order to prevent people from buying and returning for the sale price, they instituted this policy.

Re: Rant: The Children's Place
Really? That stinks. My experience with these stores is that they give you store credit for the lowest selling price. That really stinks because my kids always receive gifts w/o gift receipts for holidays, bdays, etc so I am always returning them for store credit.

Yep. Babies have no taste. Enjoy it now. You can dress them in a sack and they won't care. That doesn't last for long, especially with girls, so take advantage of it. Clothes are clothes- they will get shit on and spit up on all day long anyway!

You said some had a receipt. I'm o my asking because it's there for a reason. I worked in retail for many years and have seen it all. You may not agree with the policy, but chances are there have been many people who scammed and returned YEARS of stuff. So take the loss and shop somewhere else going forward.

But many stores (Macy's, Target, Kohls etc) don't even require a receipt for returns anymore. I think requiring a receipt to even get store credit it the exception, not the rule these days.

Re: Rant: The Children's Place
Without the original sales receipt: Returns will not be accepted without the original sales receipt. Exchanges can be processed for the same item in a different size. Please review in-store return policy for additional deals.
That's from their website.
Unfortunately that's their policy. Kinda stinks though since their clothes aren't sold in other stores.
I do love their clothes and sales though.
I never give a gift without a receipt for this reason!

Rant: The Children's Place
I hate Children's Place return policy. They are THE WORST. Other places are helpful and accommodating to their customers but at CP they are super strict and never take anything back. I don't shop there but have received a few gifts for DS and I either donate them or send them to daycare as his backup clothes. I don't bother to try and return things to them anymore.

Ugh sorry your dealing with this. As another poster said it's likely because of theft. Someone also made a good suggestion- extra day care clothes, or even if the baby is sick, clothes they can be in that you won't mind a little puke on! I bought sweats from the loft, final sale, got them home they are hideous, they have now become my pants to hang out in in the morning if I'm not feeling good!

Re: Rant: The Children's Place
Children's Place has THE WORST return policy I have ever seen. They will also monitor the number of returns you make. I have avoided shopping in this store for years because of the return policy but now that DD is older, the clothes for her age group are very cute and prices are reasonable. Also, they offer free shipping when ordering online. I have started shopping there, but with much caution. I always hold my receipts and get a gift receipt. I also don't shop too far out from a party date just to be sure returns can be made within any allowed window.

Ugh the same thing happened to me!! The clothes that I were returning were the wrong season for sizing. One of the outfits, I was able to exchange for a different size but they didn't have the other. I threw a huge fit and ultimately they did it for me but they wanted me to drive 30 mins to another store to exchange for the exact outfit. Just what I wanted to do with my newborn The staff said they hate the policy too.

Re: Rant: The Children's Place
It's absurd and it's the reason I won't shop there. The same thing happened to me with gifts from my baby shower.
I don't understand how it can be because of theft. There's no way they lose that much money because of theft. They could easily implement the same policy as other stores... by just taking your license and giving you the lowest sale price if you don't have a receipt. Keeping track by using your license prevents abuse of that policy. These clothes cost practically nothing to the store. The markup is insane if you knew what they actually pay the manufacturers.

Same here. Got some clothes for dd as gifts for her bday. I tried to return but since the outfit was online only I couldn't return or exchange. I was so annoyed. It's super frustrating. She even got doubles and I was told nope can't help you.

Re: Rant: The Children's Place
I had an issue there as well, but I still like the store - mainly because its a quantity over quality type of thing. My kids go through clothes like crazy, so I almost always feel like I'm getting a good deal there.
Thank the thieves and schemers who caused them to implement such a crappy policy.

And correct me if I am wrong you only have 30 days to return.
I always give gift receipts , not matter what store its from for this exact reason but not everyone does. Lately I have been just giving gift cards its so much easier for the person.

I find the sizing to be spot on and the quality to be pretty good.
