? re: cat, moving & stress
I'm hoping SOMEONE has a suggestion.
Our cat has been sick and we have a feeling its stress realted:
we had a lot of boxes around the house b/c we were moving so, 1st he pooped outside his litterbox (different room)...he has never done that. Then he started throwing up. He'd eat, then throw up a few hrs later. Then throw up mulitple times clear fluid. Now, He stopped eating, or only eats very very little. Tomorrow will be a week since it started.
We moved on Saturday and he's only eaten 1/4 of a can of wet food on Sunday (threw it up that night) and again today. I gave him tuna today but he only ate 1/4 of a can, and left the rest in his bowl. So far no throw up. He is getting so skinny.
The vet did xrays, barium (to see if he was blocked but he isnt), and doesn't know what else to do. All bloodwork came back normal and he stayed at the animal hospital Friday night. We may have to re-admit him now just for nutrition.
How do I get him to eat? Could this all be stress related? TIA!

Re: ? re: cat, moving & stress
We moved in November and my poor cat was so stressed out. He had to be hospitalized for a urinary blockage a few months later. We are convinced it was the move, plus the doctor said it can happen under stress (like moving to a new house). He has always been a big scaredy cat.
It took him a few months to really get comfortable but he has. It never effected his eating but he is a big orange tabby who never turns away food.
Can you stay with him while he eats? Maybe that would bring him comfort. Good luck and keep me posted.

Re: ? re: cat, moving & stress
I'm sorry to hear about your cat. When I moved, my Emily had a very hard time with it. She stayed in the bedroom for days & kept crying. My boy, Clyde, was much more curious about his new surroundings. I wouldn't be surprised if stress was affecting your cat's appetite. I agree, if you sat with him in a quiet place with his food bowl, pet him while he ate & stayed with him for a little bit afterwards it might help him. I hope he's feeling better soon!
