Re: First/6 week appointment
Hi all,
Well, I have been on the TTC boards for a bit but now I got my BFP and wanted to introduce myself to the ladies here.
I am approx. 5 weeks today. I have an appointment next Wed. with doctor. Her nurse implied that this appointment would be largely informational, compiling medical history, blood tests etc. She made it sound like I would have to come back for a ultrasound...any reason why at 6 weeks I cannot get a picture..i need a picture..dh needs pic damm it
When did u get first ultrasound? Did you first go in around 6 weeks? What should I expect?
Thanks Ladies,
Ang

Re: Re: First/6 week appointment
My OB would not see me until 7-8w. I went at 7w1d (I couldn't wait!) and had all the bloods, history, etc. as well as an ultrasound.
I believe, from what I've gathered here, they generally don't do early ultrasounds (before 7w) unless you've had prior losses or if you will have a high-risk pregnancy.
Welcome and congrats, btw!

Welcome and congrats. I was under the care of an RE so I had many sono's before my 7 weeks at the OB. But he did all of the backgrounds and blood work at that appointment.

Re: Re: First/6 week appointment
you generally only get early ultrasounds if you get preg w/ an RE. i had them starting at wk 5 b/c i got preg w/ RMA.
for a regular OB, the earliest ultrasound is usually around 8 weeks.

Re: Re: First/6 week appointment
With my DD, i had my first sono at 5 weeks, then 6wks, 7 wks etc. until I was released.
With this pregnancy, we had NO clue how far long we were (I have PCOS and very very irregular periods) so they brought me in right away. Turns out I was only like 4 weeks, so i went back every week after that until 7 weeks. I just got lucky I guess lol
Congrats!

Re: Re: First/6 week appointment
My OB wouldn't see me until I was 8 weeks. I got my BFP around 6 weeks because my cycles were really long and my GP did a confirmatory blood test. But my first OB appointment was at 8 weeks. They told me it was because they like to be able to see and hear the heartbeat at the first appointment. They only do 3 sonos the entire pregnancy unless there are complications. 8 w, 12 w, and 20 w. So they would not have done a sono before that.

Re: Re: First/6 week appointment
I went to my first appt when I was 6 weeks but I don't reccommend it. With my first pregnancy which ended in m/c I had a sono at 6 weeks and they said it was too early but something might be wrong. I was left in limbo for 2 weeks after that. This pregnancy I asked the girl who made the appt like 3 times if 6 weeks was too early and she said no. At my appointment I had an internal and a sono and the hb was slow so I had to go back at 7 weeks and everything was fine. From what I learned it is best not to have a sono too early to avoid unecessary worrying. Good luck!

Re: Re: First/6 week appointment
Welcome and congrats! I was under the care of an RE so I had my first sono at 5 weeks. But I've heard it's normal to not get a sono until 8 or 12 weeks. Honestly, in the beginning you can't see anything but a blob. Now at 8 and 9 weeks we're seeing the actual shape of the baby - arms, legs and all!

Re: Re: First/6 week appointment
Thanks ladies, I appreciate the information. I am just soooo excited and anxious. Hopefully just going in and getting blood work etc will giv me piece of mind and i calm down a bit.
Thanks again.

Re: Re: First/6 week appointment
i had my first appt at 6.5 weeks and my dr did an ultra sound. it was at my next appt at 8.5 weeks where they took a lot of blood and i filled out a complete packet of paperwork and he asked a ton of family history questions.

Oh I'm sorry to tell you that you won't calm down until you are at term!!!
okay well it does SLOWLY get better but in all likelihood you will be nervous through your first trimester

Re: Re: First/6 week appointment
The only reason I got an u/s at 6 weeks is b/c I was spotting. Otherwise, I would have had to wait until 8 weeks.
