RE: PLAYDATES Curse of the cul de sac...are you a TRUE stay at home mom? sahm and working moms...
I don't like having kids at my home.
but do you know what? this is NO problem at all. People love it that I truck my kids over to their homes. They love showing me their playrooms(most homes now have 2, one upstairs and one downstairs.) Love seeing my kid run around there perfectly fenced in yard. LOVE when I oblige to their wishes and bring along a bike so that my kid can now ride with their's around their cul de sac. LOVE snack time to show me the latest things they have picked up from trader joes.
In my moms group, when we haven't seen a mom in awhile, we always pegged her as cursed. who has she found now found to come to her home?? no longer at the park with us or someone else's yards.
And people laugh at me. I do not want playmates moving in next door to me. That would drive me crazy. Others look for active streets of fun. I can't imagine having to share every move we do with the neighbor's kids.

Really? Do they mind that you don't reciprocate? In one mom's group that I am in, it is an issue that the same people always host, and others never host.

no, never.
3 different houses this week we went to. They instantly offer up their home.
I always offer my pool to those who's communities don't have one.

dh took him out on a few errands. we went out for ice cream.

Maybe it is a Charlotte thing.
We have playdates.
Where is your ideal place to meet up for this playdate?
Most moms I know love having people over at their home.

When I have days off and keep her home from daycare, we go out. Library, park, mall, lunch, etc. I don't care for staying home unless the weather is bad. And I don't really do playdates- other moms and I always say we'll get together but we never do.

okay almost there. so your coworker has a 2 year old, Luce is 2. she says lets get the boys together.
do you invite her to your home? go to her home? or meet at a park?

i think that is the confusion. i should have said for playdates.

Most moms I know love having people over at their home.
Maybe Southern hospitality? TBH, from what I've seen on LI, people would much rather meet at a public place and not have to clean their own house/bathrooms, mow the lawn, etc. And no one I know has 2 playrooms (unless you count a basement I guess?). There have been several generous people who hosted playdates, but more often we meet up in public places.

My playdates (pretty much limited to a group a of LIF ladies) are usually at someone's house, or my own. Occasionally we meet out - an open play or something like that (generally more so in the winter months).
I guess, for us, it seems easier to host it at home and rotating hosting.

Now thinking...it might be a charlotte thing.
dana, if you are lurking, come on out! (had playdate at her home this week)
had another one on monday...she is notorious for having people over...I don't think i have ever seen her outside her home.
saturday morning a call came in from another mom...come over with kids and stay for dinner.
one is from LI, one from CT, one from NJ.
maybe because no one has family down here? i don't know. i don't like hosting kids here at all.

Re: RE: PLAYDATES Curse of the cul de sac...are you a TRUE stay at home mom? sahm and working moms...
I actually like it all!
I enjoy going to other people's homes because its a nice change of scenry for me and DS. New toys, gets me out of the house etc.
I like playdates at the park because it wears DS out, he is happy because he loves the playground, and there is no clean up involved. Just get in the car and go!
Like playdates here because its easy to transition from playdate to making dinner etc. Also I like my set up at my house for the kids. I have a ranch with a playroom so the kids can be by themselves but still in viewing range. We have a big yard with age appropriate items, no big swing set yet (last year especially at playdates I just followed DS aroudn hoping he wouldnt fall off those big swingsets), no big pool, etc.

i don't like hosting kids here at all.
Is there any specific reason for this? Is it just because you dont want to stay home?
Just curious, I have a friend who pretty much any day I am home will come over. Great for me because our kids are different age groups (hers is under 1, and mine 2.5) so its convenient for me not to have to truck him with toys to her house. And she just loves getting out of her house. So it works well for both of us!
ETA: My BIL/SIL have the "curse of the cul de sac" they live on a cul de sac where nearly every house has kids about the same age...When I babysit for them, its chaos...even the dogs have playdates (I am not kidding!)

I love having somewhere to go where I can show up with a cubed up cantelope and be welcomed. I need to get out.
I also don't have an entertaining set up at all. I don't have a toy house or a real yard. I will have people over at our pool, but even then, i wish we were at someone elses because we are in ours all the time. mine has a waterslide and a fenced in baby pool so people always want to come over.
I also have a kid who will entertain himself all night long. When I have people over here, their kids have to be down by 7. That kind of wrecks dinner.

on your day off...do you stay at home and play? go to a park? or go to someone's home?
I am a stay at home Mom at the minute, and today I did all three of those things!
Today we played at home, then Noah went to the childminder while I went to a lunch time party, after that I picked up Noah, we went to the Park and then we went to Jennys house for tea! Lucky us!
My group of Mom friends is HUGE and we can rarely get all together without there being about 60 of us, so we save that for birthday parties in church halls etc, but we do break up into lots of satellite groups and go to each others houses on a regular basis, BUT there are some politics involved in this...
I live in a medium sized house, but some of the girls live in BIG houses, so we do tend to go to the bigger houses for playdates. I have playdates at my house, but these days it tends to be just kids, the mothers do other things. Last week I had a set of twins over for a playdate...thats was fun!
I am always up for having playdates at mine, I like it, it forces me to clean up, I always get to make a cake or something, and coffees & Tea, and I love having a table full of kiddies eating their dinner! There are a few girls who don't reciprocate as much, but we don't really care. When the weather is nice we meet at our beautiful local park, we all spread picnic blankets out and enjoy the beautiful English summer!

I do all three.
Sometimes we stay home and have people over.
Sometimes we go to the park/sprinkler park and meet friends.
Sometimes we go to people's houses.
This week we are doing all three!!

Re: RE: PLAYDATES Curse of the cul de sac...are you a TRUE stay at home mom? sahm and working moms...
just thought of something else that is funny about life around here.
the newest thing is people want us to come to their bar.
Like a real bar...in their home. Not a small bar...the homes that are 4000 plus sq feet, really do have bars. Pool tables, poker table, full service bar, big TV...bar tables
I think it is people moving down here with tons of sq footage and wanting someone to use it. DH did not believe me, he just thought a bar in someone's basement or something...showed him a pic on FB and he was floored.

that is great!
yeah, my townhouse is 1300 sq ft. So i think it is a good size. But compared to where we hang out...forget it. I don't like stray toys. If he doesn't use it, I store it away for a rainy day. Other people have things out all the time. I prefer park the most of the 3. neutral ground. a lot of moms aren't park fans though

We go to both in-home and public place playdates. I also don't mind hosting playdates at my house, except this summer has been slow since I am just about due with twins and we are moving.

I'm really confused.
I am a SAHM and offer up my house, go to others houses, or invite them to our country club pool. We also will meet at restaurants or other places.
I really don't understand what the op is saying.
