Reading books....
Anyone elses DC NOT sit still when reading books?
I swear, I try ALL the time and she loses interest about half way through and won't sit still.
Anyone else have a DC that doesn't like being read to???

Emma does the same thing. She tries to flip all the pages too! When she gets older she'll "get it", don't stress

Thank GOD! Bella LOVES to turn the pages too but I was worried that she was watching too much Jack and I ruined her forever

Re: Reading books....
It used to drive me crazy- cause DD didn't want any part of them - then all of a sudden around her 1st birthday she had sooooo much interest. Lets say we pretty much read ALL day now, to the point, we sometimes hide some of her books cause we can't keep reading the same ones over and over and over and over

Madelyn does that too. At this age, it's really just the model of reading we are introducing anyway, the actual words don't mean that much. I just point out things on the page, or I'll narrate whatever SHE'S doing ("Oh- ok, you want to turn the page, good job Mads....").

Plus, they don't have a very long attention span. Think of it like watching football with DH, and paying attention to every detail (this only works if you don't like football... ). When they get interested in it, they'll sit still.

Connor likes it, but reaches for the cover! I give him a toy or another book to hold. Like someone said, you are modeling reading at this point.

John still does it at 14 months. He will give me a book to read and sit down and I will start and he will get up adn go play. Totally normal.

Re: Reading books....
I will read to him and he just wants to touch everything too..
The funny thing is if I give him a book he will hold it up and it will look like he is reading it....either that or he will eat it.

Re: Reading books....
Logan always tries to flip the pages on me and close the book,
He is pretty good most of the time and lets me finish the story. Just when he is not in the mood he gets cranky and starts squirming off my lap

Re: Reading books....
I learned she'll pay more attention if I hold the book to the side, rather than right in front of her. But even that only works for about 10 seconds longer... I've decided to just give her squishy books that she can chew on and occassionaly, I'll point out something on the page to her. Or I show her the Shutterfly books I made with her pictures in them. She loves looking at herself!

Re: Reading books....
OMG - that picture is too cute.
I found that when I tried to hold him on my lap to read - he wants no part. Now, what I do is lay on the floor with him on our tummy's and read the books that way. I will hold it up to him.
Don't get me wrong - it's still a battle and all he does is try to reach it and put it in his mouth - but he will pay attention for a SHORT while.
