reality is hitting and i'm getting worried
i'm beginning to get very nervous about preterm labor. today i was at madonna for a growth sono and they also checked the blood flow in the 2 umbilicial cords. the tech kept making me nervous, not saying directly, but kinda saying that one baby's cord was getting better blood flow than the other. then she kept saying things about "advanced maternal age." (i'm 35)
she said i had to go back next week, for a test (don't remember name) that would take cells from the cervix and to also put me on a monitor to see if there are any contractions and "uterus agitation."
i am almost 25 weeks and i am just now starting to feel slight movements, but definitely no contrations.
is this all routine? i'm going to call my regular ob, but i just wanted your opinions.
thanks for any info and nerve calming!

Re: reality is hitting and i'm getting worried
Did you meet with a doctor at madonna? I usually met with a doctor at madonna after getting ultrasounds. I would not listen to the person doing the sonogram. They said some things to me that were not true.
I never had the test that you are having about taking the cells from the cervix, but the other test is very usual. It's called a Non Stress test. You sit for a 1/2 hour and they monitor you for contractions. I got one a week beginning at 30 weeks. Do your twins share the same placenta?? I assume so since they are worried about TTTS.
Are your twins measuring different weights. They finally took my twins at 36 weeks after madonna noticed the boys weights were going in two opposite directions and they were fearful it was the beginning of TTTS. However, the smaller one was actually only a 1/2 pound less when born (Madonna thought they were almost a pound and a half difference).
Madonna is very cautious so i would not worry too much at this point. They probably just want to cover all the areas to make sure everything is okay.
Feel Free to FM me....

Re: reality is hitting and i'm getting worried
I think that test that you are talking about is the FFN - they swab the cervix and see if there is a particular protein present. If it isn't, they can almost guarantee that you won't go into labor within 2 weeks (the last time I got a neg on this test was a week before my water broke, so it's not totally accuarate!). If it is present, it does not mean you will def. go into labor, they just watch you closely.
The NST (non-stress test) is to monitor the babies heart rates and activity in the uterus. I started the NST/FFN, fetal blood flow and growth sono regimen around the 26 weeek mark, so I would not stress out. You are in EXCELLENT hands at Madonna and I would speak to the doctors when you are there - if you're on a regular appt. schedule, you'll probably see the doctor every other appt. They are wonderful, cautious and conservative. Try not to worry!

thank you for all the info. i haven't met a doctor at madonna yet, but they said i will after that appointment, dr. mackenzie.
my twins do not share the same placenta-they are fraternal twins, created by ivf, definitely seperate.
as far as their weights, as of yesterday: baby a: 1 1/2 lbs baby b: 1 3/4 lbs the tech said that was fine, not a big difference.
i'm glad to hear that madonna is cautious, that helps calm my nerves.

I am not a twin mommy but I see Dr. McKenzie and LOVE him!!! He is so nice and never seems like he is rushing you. Even my DH (who is not a dr. fan)really likes him.
