I need to know if any other babies do this..getting worried...
My 5 month old thrashes his head back and forth when he is sleeping and sometimes while awake. He isn't in pain, its like when you shake your head to say "no"...but he does it for maybe 30 seconds and then just stops.
Its kind of funny to watch, but of course my DH has me neurotic that something is neurologically wrong. Other than being a product of his papa, i don't think so (JK DH I love you!)

Re: I need to know if any other babies do this..getting worried...
OMG Ryan does the EXACT same thing...he bangs (and I mean SLAMS) his head on the mattress for like 30 sec then passes out to sleep. It's the strangest thing. I asked the ped. about it and she said it was totally fine. Her exact words were "You'd probably rather he sucks his thumb, but this is just how he soothes himself". Sure enough once he starts banging his head we know he'll be off to sleep within minutes!! If he does it while awake I know it's time to put him down. hth!

My little girl does this and it's so much fun trying to get her nuk in her mouth . I think she's trying to just get comfy. She looks to the right, then the left, right then left, etc...this is on her belly. Then finally settles down.

Ali has also always done this. She never really used the pacifier and never really sucked her thumb, she did this to make herself fall asleep.
It is funny now when she is sitting in the middle of the floor playing and then all of a sudden does it - we are afraid she is going to fall asleep sitting up

Re: I need to know if any other babies do this..getting worried...
my son did this last night for the first time. I too got a little weirded out. I wasn't sure what he was doing. He kept throwing his head/neck from left to right.
