Really need your help girls

Ok...so many of you know the situation with my mom.

Everything is finally coming down and it's gonna get worse. (not looking for pity, just solutions) the way it's coming down, my mom is getting the house (and all the bills and mortgage with it) but no $$$. My mom is disabled. She can't do anything that invovles fine motor skills with her hands, no lifting, etc. She also has ADD and can't concentrate on numbers so she doens't feel like she could be a cashier.

Does anyone have any suggestions about what kind of job she could apply for? It seems really limited.

She's good with kids and elders, but she can't lift. She's been a SAHM for over 30 years and ahs minimal computer skills and doesn't know a lot about today's working world.

but maybe there's something I'm not thinking of.

Re: Really need your help girls

She's only in her 50's, but she has these awful back and neck and nerve injuries.

I think a big problem is she ahsn't been in the workforce for over 30 years. I personally think she could handle a cashier job like CVS or something (ad if they hire elderly people, then hopefully they don't make everyone lift boxes, etc)but she's intimidated.

She sent in an app to be a bus matron and has one to be a school aide, but there's currently a hiring freeze

I would suggest a receptionist job. Or something along those lines.

What about being a home health aide? We had one for my Grandma - she just came in during the day to help with light cooking / cleaning / and to keep her company. I don't think she would need to lift anything either and no computer involved Chat Icon

She woudn't have to lift to move the patient in and out of bed, or turn them every few hours?

my mom took 24 hour care of her mother, and it was realy physical

The school aide sounds like a good idea...

They also have greeters at stores

what about a bus driver for school?

We're looking into it, but she probably can't because she didn't work to get credits. But we're looking into it.

I meant that CVS hires older people and they don't work the register. They straighten up and help people.

Walmart or even Target higher people, that don't have to lift boxes or cashiers. They work in a certain dept.

Also, I know the hospital I used to work in had greeters in the Main lobby. She should check with her local hospitals!

I'm going to try to convince her to try. Maybe if I go around the mall to stores and get applications for her.

ETA: I always figured at these stores you have to do cashier and/or stocking

Ok, that will help. I can't imagine she can't get disability benefits. Do you have a lawyer?

I still say a receptionist job in a private practice docs office or realty company..low pressure say $20,000/yr and they can train her on basic software for booking appts.

It's a challenge either way, but I know this isn't easy.

My mom is disabled too. Chat Icon

Well, my Grandma could get in and out of bed and into her wheel chair with minimal assistance... not sure if the home health agencies would require you to be able to lift patients...
