rearfacing past 2
Still RF at almost 2.5
It is recommended until 2. After that you can continue as long as you like OR as long as they are not above the height/weight limits on your seat for RF (usually 35 lbs, not sure of height).
We will have to turn soon as DD is tall.

Ugh, not my intention at all. I wanted to know if a lot of other people do this because I plan on doing it and am meeting a little resistance from family. I've already done all the research.

Believe me I know it's not your intention just fibbing the heads up.

My DS is only 21 months but I'm planning on rear facing him for as long as possible, hopefully at least until 3.

My ds is only 18 months, but I intend to rearface until 4 or the limits of his nextfit, which is the second tallest seat on the market. He's really really tall 35.5 inches.
My I laws think I'm insane, but I really don't give a crap what they say, he's safer, and since I'm regularly driving the jersey turnpike, it's even more important. It's not like he's just riding for neighborhood driving

We turned her at 2, but we still got questions after 1. Why is she still RFing? Ummm because the guidelines and recommendations have changed since you had your kid 7 years ago! Why can't people EVER mind their own business. Like ever? I would never even THINK about asking someone about one of their parenting choices. Jeez

I'm getting questions from family about her being rear facing at 13 months!!!!! I guess it wasn't done back in the day so older people can't understand why. I plan on keeping her rear facing as long as possible.

I got the same reaction from my family, particularly my sister, who has four older kids and gave me the eye roll. I don't care. DD will be rear facing as long as possible.

I don't get this. Why does your family care if your kid is rear facing or front facing. What difference does it make to them? (Besides it being safer for the child...)

Do you mean your husband is questioning it? In that case, I'd probably try to show some of the videos supporting extended rear facing. Anyone else I would just try not to engage the conversation at all other than maybe that it's safer or that your ped instructed you to do so.

DS just turned 2 and is still rf. I will do so until he reaches the height/weight limits or until it becomes an issue for him.

I have no idea on this either! My SIL had to comment all the time. I told her that I don't find it any harder to get her in and out so what is the big deal? People are just buttinskis.

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that people are insecure when you make choices that are not the choices they have made. So by you choosing you rear face until 2+, you are saying that they did something wrong by front facing earlier.

Re: rearfacing past 2
DD is still rearfacing at 2.5 and doesn't know that there is another option. We'll keep it this way as long as possible.
My family (DH included) think I'm nuts but whatever, that's ok. I'm doing what I feel is right for DD. My Grandma has been telling me for over a hear how sorry she is for DD that she can't see us or be a part of conversations while driving. I say oh well!
Do what you feel is right and don't let your family sway you. I could care less what everyone thinks as long as I'm doing what I believe is best.
eta- DH is the only person that I really showed the research to and explained why beyond the basic "it's safer". He still thinks it's sorta over the top and would probably be fine switching her FF but I'm pretty adamant about it so he doesn't mind.

All i had to do was show my DH the videos of accidents with RF vs FF babies and he was convinced. Luckily the IL's are ok with following our lead on it as well, and if i ever find out that they're not, we'll cross that bridge

I've sent all the info but he hasn't read it yet. as the saying goes, you can lead a horse to water. .. I'm not worried about it, its happening whether he likes it or not and he's fine with that. Just wanted to know how common it was here

I'm going to try to keep DS RF as long as humanly possible. He's on the large side so we'll see how long i can keep it up (he's currently 13 months).
I've already been questioned by several people and all I say in response is "internal decapitation". I'd rather a broken leg than a broken neck if, God forbid, we ever get into a car accident.

Re: rearfacing past 2
I turned my oldest at 28 months and family thought I was nuts. I would have kept her rf even longer but I need to use my middle seat for my friends dd I pick up from school and with two rear facing seats she could get into the middle seat. It's your child you do what you think it right.
