Reasons to Delay MMR ( or split)
Can you list yours? Im going to discuss with PEd tonight and she snot that onboard with delaying. I have my own reasons, but looking for others that would support my own arguements.
TIA!!!

Re: Reasons to Delay MMR ( or split)
for us it was more because of Christopher not developing at the apprpriate milestones, so my PED said she had no problem, in fact recommended that we can wait till he is 2 years old and see what happens after all his evulautions.

Re: Reasons to Delay MMR ( or split)
First and foremost, you do have to consider - is your child in school or daycare regularly? If so, most doctors will discourage you from delaying the shots - especially since measles cases are on the rise right now.
Secondly, what are your reasons for wanting to delay? Do you have specific developmental concerns? If so, I would discuss those in detail w/your ped.
I delayed my kids' MMR's until their 2nd bdays - but they were not daycare babies, so my ped was willing to support my decision to delay.

my ped does not do the shot until 15 months. I decided not to delay it past that point

Thank you , but what reasons did you give your ped?

Re: Reasons to Delay MMR ( or split)
We discussed with our Ped in the interview with them when I was PG.
They told us about facts vs. fears and the "no evidence".
But in the end, they understood our hesitation (Study on Autism (whether founded or not!), over vaccination over short time periods) and told us that they would split it.
We don't want more than 2 shots at a time for other vaccines also. As long as we agree with them that we will give them the vaccines close to schedule or split, the are willing to work with us on spliting, etc...

Re: Reasons to Delay MMR ( or split)
I spoke with my ped about this early on. DS will go for his 12 month appointment in a couple of weeks. She said the standard age is between 12 - 15 months. She said that she does NOT believe there is a link with autism, but how can she argue with a parent who claims there were NO signs before the vaccine was given. She said she would recommend to delay only if he shows any signs of a developmental delay. She doesn't recommend splitting the shot - she said it makes no sense at all, but, unfortunately, I can't remember the reason...
I plan to follow the peds recommendation. He is not showing any signs of developmental delay, so I plan on giving him the vaccine on schedule.

Re: Reasons to Delay MMR ( or split)
My argument to my dr - If there is a hereditary link, I have it. My sister's 2 kids have PPD NOS and Asperger's. And since they can't prove it either way, why chance it?

Re: Reasons to Delay MMR ( or split)
My reasons are simple:
I personally know 2 people with children who were developing normally, they got the MMR shot and things changed.
I think there are many factors that play into autism and developmental delays, including genetics. I also think our kids are being overloaded with too many vaccines too quickly. I give DS 1 shot a month. he will not get the MMR shot until he is 2, probably longer, until I am positive he has hit important milestones. The shot will also be broken up.

ITA- this is what we are doing as well.
