Why do people delay the MMR shot or split them up?
This might said silly to some people that I'm asking this question but DS is two years old and I never questioned the vaccine schedule.
I am more afriad of the exposure to the diseases than the shot. Also, with DS iin daycare I would have to prove that his shots were all up to date.
Just curious.

I think with the MMR shot there is some concern that giving it to early may cause Autism. I think if you do a search there are alot of posts on this. People are split...some say even if the research is not 100% proven better to be safe than sorry others say not enough research to take a risk. DD is not getting this shot soon so I haven't done much research on it. I think Liza posted a few good links on the research though.

Re: Why do people delay the MMR shot or split them up?
For me, I am choosing to vaccinate on an alternate schedule. I feel that it is too much on his body to follow the standard practice. Some people feel the MMR has something to do with autism. IMO, research will NEVER say that yes, this vaccine has caused it because of the massive lawsuits. However the federal gov't has set aside money to pay for lawsuits on this . They have taken thimerisal out of vaccines and that may have been part of the problem. I don't want to subject my child to some of the diseases the vaccines prevent, however I feel that getting 4 or more shots in one sitting is too much for his little body. He will get his shots, just on a modified schedule.
