Rec, for a short vacation
Can anyone recommend a place for a short trip 2 or 3 nights max? We have a 2 year old and a 6 year old. NOt too far - hence gas prices are insane

Re: Rec, for a short vacation
I'm not sure how far you'd like to go but I'll offer a couple of ideas:
- Lake George, NY... stay at The Great Escape Six Flags Hotel and Water Park. With the price of the room you get access to a waterpark during your entire stay. The kids will love it - lots to do. When not at the hotel there is so much near by from mini golf to a drive in movie theater to simply walking the town.
- Mystic, CT... great town and pirates cove along with an aquarium the kids would love. Lots to do. I stayed at the Marriott and it was an affordable option and a nice hotel.
- Hershey Park, PA... besides the Hershey Hotel or Lodge (which are great) for a more affordable option I stayed at the Hilton and it was nice. While hear the town offers several day things like Lake George and of course a park.
On Long Island (depending on where you live)...
- Port Jefferson Village or Wading River... it's great for a couple of days and the area offers a number of free things you can do with the kids from walking the dock and shops to a 40 min drive to Splish Splash or Atlantis Aquarium or the LI Game Farm. Hotels include Danfords in the village or just outside the village is Residence Inn or Three Village Inn. In Wading River there is the East Wind Hotel (love) or a more affordable Best Western.
- Montauk... stayed at the Montauk Yacht Club and it was fabulous. Great pool too.
Good luck!

If Rhode Island isnt too far for you then I would definately reccommed Newport.
We went there for a wedding a couple years ago and it was absolutely beautiful!!!

Willow Valley in PA was very nice and very resonable. You can get your meals included and the food is wonderful! They also have arts & crafts during the day some are free some are a small fee. (between $1-$5) I went in the colder weather but heard they have a lot more in summer. Also the Great Escapes in Lake George or Great Wolf in Pa (a little more $) but a lot for the kids to do. Oh and I think Camelbeach in Pa has a nice water park.

Re: Rec, for a short vacation
We just came back from a 3 day wkend in the PA Dutch Country. We stayed in the Bird-in-Hand Family Inn and it was awesome for our 2 yr old... on the grounds was 2 indoor pools and an outdoor pool, good playground, some baby goats and ponies for petting/feeding, a duck pond, etc. We did some of the touristy things too like ride the Strasburg Railroad, go to Cherry Crest Farms (like White Post, kinda), we ate at a smorgasbord, etc. It was our first real vacation with DS and I have to say it was a success. I highly recommend the area.

We are going to Cooperstown in about a month, I think we're staying over 2 nights then coing home.
There's more to do there then just the hall of fame.
