Recommend a GREAT restaurant in Suffolk!
DH and I always spend V-day dinner with our best friends. Every year we pick a new restaurant. Looking for some great restaurants. We pretty much like anything (my BF is a vegetarian though), the more eclectic and funky, the better. Anywhere in Suffolk is good for us.
TIA!

Re: Recommend a GREAT restaurant in Suffolk!
I've only been to two nice Italian restaurants, I wouldn't call them funky or eclectic although one of them is family style and that was new and interesting to me...
my favorite: Piccola Bussola in Huntington the food is out of this world!
I also went to Mama Lombardi's Restaurant and that was pretty nice.
If you don't mind a more casual-pub like atmosphere, John Harvard's in Lake Grove is also delicious. They have a large menu.
And I haven't been to these restaurants but I hear they are nice: -Porters on the Lane in Bellport -Pentimento in Stony Brook

Suffolk is fairly large area - where in Suffolk are you looking?
I love Painter's as well. Great Atmosphere, great food and you can hang out and shoot pool or lounge around after dinner.
I love A Kitchen Bistro in St. James - Maybe an issue for the vegetarian though as they have a limited menu. Prix Fix and it is BYOB with no corkage fee.
Barrique is my new favorite place in Babylon, I just love the atmosphere and the small plates idea.

We've done Verace, Vittorios, H20, Honu, Besito, O's, Painters, and Michael Anthony's in the past...Love them ALL, especially Besito. Verace is a small plates restaurant like Honu, which gets pricy with 2 big guys

I think you would like Chop Shop in Smithtown. It's unassuming but clean. Their food is very good and their service is outstanding. And the Nutella crepe for dessert??

Oh I'm sad! I haven't been there in about 6 months - but the last time I found their food to be very good! I almost went 2 weeks ago - and now I'm glad I did not! What was wrong with their food when you went?

The food is good but they rush you. I wouldn't go if you like to sit and chit chat and take your time.

I know you want to make a reservation for Valentine's Day. --but if you go on a less busy night, sit in the lounge! You will not be rushed. You can sit and have drinks and order when you're ready! Also, ladies get 1/2 priced drinks Monday-Thursday (not sure about Friday) from 4:30- 7:00 at the bar and lounge. (We found this out on our 4th visit when the bartender told us about the deal-the waitress charged us full price again and when we questioned, she asked her boss and he confirmed that the deal is in the lounge also.) We love the meatball appetizer there!
