DD didn't get the concept with the spout ones. I introduced at 7 months and she would just chew on the spout. I got the Playtex Lil Gripper with the straw. You can squeeze the cup and liquid comes up the straw to help them along. She picked it up in no time and loves it. She BFs twice a day now and takes milk out of that cup in the afternoon, so we're basically done with bottles before a year!

We went from BF/bottles to a cup with a straw. It took DS some time to get it (he definitely was older than 6 months) but now that's all he drinks out of. No bottles. No sippys.

We also did the sippy with the straw and not the spout. He would just bite the spout and he tried to do the same with the straw sippy so we pushed straws everywhere, out to eat, at home, grammys house, etc. We also got him a Camelback for kids because it's a straw that you bite to get the drink. It's not really spill proof but we just watch him with it. We rotate the Camelback and the Munchkin straw sippy. We also have a Tommee Tippee straw sippy in the insulated cup.

We started with the Take and Toss ones for the same reason - she wouldn't take bottles, and I wanted the simplest cup out there. Now I like the Playtex ones with the handles. She still won't use a straw sippy!

DD#2 never took a bottle - she just never would no matter what we tried. At 6 months we went straight to open cups and to straw cups.

I swore by the Playtex Little Grippers straw sippies in the beginning. It was the only thing DS would drink out of. I did find they leaked so as soon as DS got used to using a sippy cup, I switched to the Tommee Tippee straw sippies.
