Recommend your (cheaper) alternative to Le Creuset pots
I need an enameled dutch oven pot but don't have the money for a Le Creuset. One of the knockoffs (mario batali, rachel ray, etc.) has to be good, right? Can you please recommend yours?
Also, if you have an enameled pot and a regular cast iron pot, which do you prefer? Do you find one works better than the other? I have a cast iron stock pot and am not happy with it so that's why I'm thinking the enameled version may be the way to go.
Thanks!!

I got the Martha Stewart version on sale at Macy's and I really like it. I don't have a regular cast iron, so I can't help you with the comparison.

My parents bought me the one from Costco (it is Kirkland) and I use it for EVERYTHING!! I leave it on the stove top and it is my go to pot for whatever I am making.

Re: Recommend your (cheaper) alternative to Le Creuset pots
i love my enamled dutch oven by le creuset. it was a shower gift.
Lodge makes a very good alternative. So does Staub and Mario Batali.
stay away from rachel rays.
The enameling makes cleaning WAY easier, & it eliminates the need for seasoning, drying, re-oiling, etc required for uncoated cast iron.
i do think having a cast iron fry pan is a great idea for indoor grilled taste when the winter rolls around..also good to throw it on the bbq

Re: Recommend your (cheaper) alternative to Le Creuset pots
I have a small le Creuset but I didn't want to spend $$ on the bigger one so I have a large Fontignac that really has been holding up well.
ETA: I like both of my cast iron pots. I use the enameled one more for soups and certain braised meats. I love my regular one for sauces and old fashioned stews.

I have a Martha one from Macy's as well! They are often on sale. It's heavy, as I imagine all pots of this nature are, but it's very well made and is easy to clean up.
I use it for risotto etc and it's been a great purchase.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to check out Macy's to see the Martha Stewart ones and I have a gift card to Crate and Barrel I have to use too, maybe I'll look there also.

Also something to consider, there is a le creuset outlet in riverhead (i don't know if it's in deer park), you should be able to get a really good deal out there. Granted, you might have to buy one that's a less conventional color, but who cares?!
