Dd is 10 months and i want to start moving away from the traditional sippy... Too many straw ones to choose from... Which ones do you like? Thanks!

We use Playtex The First Lil' Gripper™ Straw Trainer Cup. It works great you can squeeze it a little so you can help them out when you start using it.

We started DD on the same one. Now she prefers to drink from my camelback though!

That's another question I have... How do you teach them to suck from a straw Chat Icon does it just come naturally when they are ready?

Re: Recommend your dc straw sippy cup please!

We started using the playtex straw cups, as per a ton of recommendations. Apparently they make them differently now. We didnt have a problem until we were putting cold milk in them. Anything cold leaks out of the top, because of the pressure change as the liquid starts to warm. We now use them for only room temp water. It kills me that we have so many of them, and again had to buy all new cups for the twins.

Our new fav non leaking cup is nuby

At first we used Munchkin Click Lock Flip Straw Cup - 2pk 10oz - Neutral, but hated them. They would leak and not the easiest to clean fully and put back together

Now we use laytex BPA Free Lil Gripper Straw Cup 9 oz. and my DS loves them. We even have the insulated ones so it keeps his milk/water cold and does not spill. Also you can take the whole straw thing out and thoroughly clean it, which was another must for me.

This is what I started DS on when he was 6 months old and plan on using for DD2 when the time comes.

Squeezing it that little bit helped him realize there was something there. I never used spout sippy cups at all.

We use Munchkin insulated straw cups. I like that the straw folds down.

Sucking is a natural reflex--the same as they would suck from breast/bottle.

We did Playtex grippers. At 6 months we did the one with the handles. At a year, switched him to the ones with no handles.

Tomee tippee straw sippy. Straw is soft which I feel is good to start with. And the straw closes in & folds out easily from the top, preventing leaking. This thing never leaks even a drop when the straw is closed in. DS likes to play w it when he's done drinking too which is a nice additional distraction when we're out & he's grumpy.

As for how he caught on w the straw, we were out to eat one night & realized we'd forgotten a sippy. We gave him water from the bottom of a straw over & over. At 1st he thought it was funny, but eventually he started trying to suck on it. So we let him try drinking from it at the top & he got it.
