Its a hard thing for them to learn. Just keep trying, once she gets it ONCE, then she will be a pro. Then your problem will be trying to get her to stop blowing INTO the cup to make bubbles

well my DD didn't get it until she was about 21 months or so! it made me crazy too for some reason b/c all the other kids i knew could do it! i think 2 things helped-i used drink boxes to help her get it b/c when they are squeezed a little juice came up and she got that. and i would take a straw and suck up the water with my finger over the top and place the bottom in her mouth and she would suck out the water KWIM? i think there was a thread a few months or even a year ago where someone actually posted something a lot more helpful on this topic.

I need help with this too-- I have tried two different straw cups, and all she does is shake it. Spill proof my arse!

Practice. Keep giving to her. Drink from straws around her to show her. They get it eventually.

Exactly what we did. DH and I always use straws so she would always want what we were having. So that's how she got practice

My DD started the straw sippy at about a year. She had trouble at first, so I tried showing her and then realized the cup we were using was very hard to suck. I had trouble I started with the small Nuby straw cup with handles. That one seemed to be easier.

It definitely takes a lot of practice to get it.
What worked with my dd was to dip a straw into a cup of water, put my finger on the top (it acts like a seal and holds the water in the straw) and then put the straw in dd's mouth. At first, you're just dropping the water in their mouth for them, but eventually they learn to suck that way (you can keep your finger on for some resistance). HTH!

ds actually got the straw cup before the regular sippy.... i did, for a while, put water in e regular straw and dispense it into his mouth... which may have helped him learn... though the straw cups are hard ebecause of that valve...
