Recommend your South Shore Suffolk town!
We're still waiting for my co-op to sell (any takers?!) but I'm always surfing for houses.
Our current considerations are Great River, East Islip, Oakdale, Sayville, West Sayville, Bayport or Blue Point.
Please tell me why you live in your town and what you love most about it!
Thanks!
*Forgot to mention that we are currently living in Oakdale, south of Montauk so we'd like to stay south.
We have even considered East Patchouge and Brookhaven as we have friends there but I'm not hearing great things about South Country Schools.

Hmmmmm... that cute little house is located smack in the middle of our best man's two best drinking buddies so I'd rather not give them a fourth!!!!!
Love that area though but Foster Ave is not a contender!!!! But good lookin' out!!!! Thanks!

Re: Recommend your South Shore Suffolk town!
I've seen that house for a long time on mlsli.com
it must need a LOT of work. and it's also more than 100 yrs old, could have structural damage.

Re: Recommend your South Shore Suffolk town!
I'm from Sayville. It's a really nice town, good schools, plus it has a "town".
I love Blue Point and Bayport too, if you're willing to go a little further east.
Oakdale has a really cool area near the water, one part used to be an artist's colony.

I'm in Holbrook too. I think it is nice here. There really are no "bad" areas here. There are those select neighbors who you would like for them to move, but that is another story-lol!!

Re: Recommend your South Shore Suffolk town!
We bought a house in Sayville and there is a house on our block for sale it is going for $525 by owner but it might have dropped in price since they are buying a house around the block and I hear that it was recently updated. If you want to know the street let me know!
I love everything about all the south shore suffolk towns but we choose sayville because of the excellent school district and the fact that the budge seems to always pass here never depriving the children of a great education.

I used to live in Bohemia, bordering on Sayville. Sayville is nice and clean and has shopping but is quiet enough. I like it.

Re: Recommend your South Shore Suffolk town!
I lived in Oakdale for 10 years. I really liked it there, my son attended Connetquot from 4th grade till graduation & I thought the schools were excellent at the elem & MS levels, but the high was a disapointment. Its a really convient area though. When I first moved there Sunrise hwy was still being rebuilt, it was a mess. Now its awesome & they keep getting more & more good shopping. I'm annoyed at how good its gotten since I moved! Sayville has that adorable main street feel, we liked going to dinner there.

Re: Recommend your South Shore Suffolk town!
I live in Islip and I love it! I bought my co-op there in 2002 and when we got engaged and wanted to buy a house we knew that we wanted to stay living in the town. We did look at East Islip too, but I heard that the Islip schools have a better reputation and I love that Islip has a town center.
I live SOM, in the Historic section, and we got extremely fortunate to buy 2 years ago at the height of the market in the high 300's (although we sunk over 130K into it since - our choice, not out of necessity) and our taxes are under 7K. I love that I live 2 mins walk from the Library and 5 mins walk to main street.
We have great restaurants and bars and I love the small town, community feel.
Here are a couple of houses that are currently for sale on the streets around our house. Some are $$$$, but it gives you the idea of the homes in our area.
Smith Street
Church Street $$$
Cedar Avenue - I love this one and great street
Union Ave across from Library

Re: Recommend your South Shore Suffolk town!
ODonnell... Thank you so much Michelle! Now that's the kind of reply I was looking for! And those few house samples are just the type of old construction that make me feel warm and fuzzy!
It's funny, DH had once mentioned Islip but I kind of dismissed it because I always thought of it as much bigger than the smaller towns we grew up in. I guess my brain goes to think of the "town of Islip" and makes it this huge area. We both went to East Islip Schools and grew up here but to me, Islip was always McDonald's and the movie theatre. But when I think of it, I can recall going to a ginger bread house making gathering in a beautiful old house south of Montauk.
Thanks again, this is exactly what I was looking for.... to open my eyes to the great spots in my own backyard that I just have not noticed yet! Thanks! If you see a freak girl driving around like a stalker, that's me in my neighborhood canvasing mode!!!! I just may take the long way home from my errands today!!!

Any time I am always checking to see what's on offer. DH thinks I'm nuts, but I love looking at the character of these homes.
