Ok.. this is a hot debate in my house. We have a Shark and a Dyson.
The attachment to the Shark is great on surfaces. Shark is powerful and does a good job but has a super short cord and I find it annoying to use the handle part (it just doesn't feel right).
Our Dyson is over a decade old. Its the original Pet model. I freaking LOVED this thing like no tomorrow, but it finally started to stop working well on carpet. We have no carpet except our rooms. Love the handle attachment and its floor attachments, just got tired of not having a full vacuum.
Key for me: HAIR, HAIR and OMG HAIR!
Shark picks up a TON of pet fur and my hair My aged Dyson isn't as good anymore. Can't pull up the hair in the fabric of the carpet. Shark has a single brushed wheel on the bottom Dyson has two wheels with tilted brushes Shark you have to stop, sit the thing on its side and cut out the hair at least every other use (AJ and I both have long hair and it falls out easily). I usually use a razor blade, slice the mass, then tug a war until its mostly cleared out. SO Frustrating! You also need to clean the little filter pad thingie from time to time. FILTHY Dyson, never had that issue. Dump and move on.
So.. we have two. LOL

We have the Dyson dc25 and we love it. We had the shark before the dyson and that was amazing until it just got too old.

just when i thought my carpet/floors were clean..I used a Dyson (the 1st time 8yrs ago) and was amazed on what that thing sucked up! I still use same one. Its getting old and banged up (I'm not gentle on things) but it still does its job. Only maintenance is cleaning filter every 6 months and dumping the canister.

Re: Recommend your vacuum
Just got a Shark and I love it. I had 2 Dysons before and didn't feel they held up very long.

So glad to hear everyone loves their shark. I have a Hoover right now and HATE it. I am looking at the shark and it has great reviews.

Same. We had Hoovers and Bissells and they always broke so quickly.

I have the Dyson DC25 and its about 6 years old. I thought it was starting to lose suction and I started hating it. Then it broke. So I took it to get fixed. While it was getting fixed I borrowed my sister's Shark Navigator Pro. I hated it compared to my Dyson. I felt it didn't pick up anything and the "head" was not flat like my Dyson.
My Dyson cost $100 to fix and I am now very happy with it again.
I have heard from many people and the guy at the vacuum repair place that the Electrolux Canister and Miele Canister Vacuums are the best on the market.
