Recommendations for dog boarding?
I may be away on travel the week of Thanksgiving. I know that most places up their price due to the holiday. I used to bring my dogs to the Petsmart Hotel in Huntington. I haven't had to leave them overnight since our honeymoon. Which was 4 years ago. I just called to get an estimate and WOW. $430 for my two shih tzu's!
Is there any place else that I can trust to leave my babies which is also more affordable????
TIA

Re: Dog Boarding
Have you thought about a house dog sitter? My mom had a great sitter when we had a dog. That was years ago, but it was probably cheaper than boarding. Plus the pooch got to be comfy in his own house.

Re: Dog Boarding
It sounds like a good idea although I feel funny about letting a stranger in my home. What if they go through my things or steal something?

we never had a problem. But maybe you could do a post about dog sitting and ask other's their experiences/opinions/recommendations.

Re: Recommendations for dog boarding?
I am in Nassau and I decided to leave my 2 dogs to Town Line Vets in Hauppauge for an oncoming trip. They have a great reputation. I had asked for rec. several months ago.
One of DH's friend is a vet with his own practice in North Shore Nassau and I did not like the place. I had a bad vibe when I got my dogs back. I can't disclose the place though.
So this time we are going the distance but I want them in a nice place that people liked.
The 1st night is $36/dog. Then it's $31 per night for each dog.
One of my clients also worked there so I felt confident after rec. from LIF, touring the facily myself and my own client rec. the place too.

Re: Recommendations for dog boarding?
Thanks smdl - So we're talking about the same price around $400 or more since I have the two dogs. I guess the prices did go up since I last left my dogs at a boarding place. I checked around a few other places and it seems $30 + is the going rate per dog overnight. I will still check out the place you recommended. I am sure it's great.

best in show pet resort in mineola. They are awesome. Maggie was just there for 5 days when I was in the hospital. They have huge rooms for them and doggie playtime...

The cheapest I had found was someone doing it at her house for $25/night/dog.

Re: Recommendations for dog boarding?
There's Willow Pet Hotel in Deer Park, they're near my vet, so that's the only way I'm familar with them, never used them, but it does look nice from the outside! Good luck!

Re: Recommendations for dog boarding?
If you do use Town Line, can you report back on the experience? They're my vet and we'll need boarding next year for an extended vacation.
The prices you're seeing sound right. I remember the last time we traveled that the cost of dog care was about as much as our airfare! As long as we're paying that much, we would want them to be in a place where they could play together, or with other well-behaved dogs. I know at Town Line, they can do that.

We use Five Star Kennel in Baldwin. We have a small dog and it's $25 a night.
