Recouping Renovation Costs
wait - you mean if I put new siding up its not worth MORE than it costs??

interesting... And p.s. there prices for midrange kitchens are a little steep for me. I'm mean what size are we talking? Even new cabinets, new countertop (not granite), new appliances and new floors (ie tile) wouldn't cost 50K, more like 30-40K.

I don't know if I agree with all that....
But i do know that the price of vinyl siding increased a lot this year b/c the cost of oil was so high.
Also I think putting a rediclously high end kitchen in a small house, or one that is not in a desireable locations can only go so far. Your high end kitchen is not going to make up for the other property flaws that are unfixable.

I just tried out the renovation calculator to see what they estimate our construction to be worth.
I wish it were true, but it seems really off to me. Their estimated cost of a major renovation on a master bedroom suite is more than we are paying for the entire construction on our house! I'd put our house on the market now if I thought we could recoup what they say
