Recurrent miscarriages (posting for a friend)

I just found out my friend had her third miscarriage Chat Icon I am heartbroken for her. She went to an RE for her last pregnancy (the third) and things were looking good (progesterone/beta levels good, HB, etc.). She went today for a sonogram and the baby stops growing at six weeks (just like her two previous miscarriages). She had testing done after her first two m/c, and nothing came back abnormal. This time around, they were checking her progesterone and she was on suppositories. What else could they be missing? What other testing should she demand? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated - I want to help lead her in the right direction.

I agree with other poster. I have had nine m/c before 8 weeks and finally found Dr. B who deals more with the body's immune response to pregnancy. He's expensive but from what I hear, well worth it.

Good luck to your friend!

Re: Recurrent miscarriages (posting for a friend)

after my 2 losses -- both between 8 and 9 weeks my OBGYN gave me a script for a whole lot of blood tests including an immune panel.

I never got to use her script because ironically enough my primary dr sent me to a hematologist because my hemaglobin count dropped... and the hematologist did all the blood work (including everything my OBGYN was going to test for) --- turns out athat I have a blood clotting issue (antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome) as well as gene mutations that don't let me absorb B12 or Folic Acid.

The "fix" is shots of Lovenox (blood thinner) every day once deemed a viable preganncy, b12 shots and prescription Folic Acid.

I also saw Dr Braverman (after I had all the above results) and yes I like dhim but he is very $$$$ and only takes out of network insurance.

Your friend can ask her OBGYN to run a recurrent miscarriage panel on her

Yes a visit with Dr. Braverman. There aren't any OBs that I'm aware of that test for immune issues. Dr. B checks for thrombophilia and other issues and performs all the appropriate testing.

Dr.b also begins treatment before ovulation to be preventative. So we didn't wait until I was pregnant to begin meds. I began everything including Neupogen and Lovenox before conception!

I had the same issue and was told by my fiirst RE that all my blood work was normal, but she never checked my immune panel. Now with new RE who is very aggressive and did a tone of test include immune panel which showed i have very elevated NK cells. She should definately look into a RE with a lot of research experience who is willing to do all the testing.
