Recurrent Yeast Infections?

Anyone deal with this?

I feel like I get a yeast infection, use Monistat, it goes away for a few days then comes back.
Sometimes it takes 2 shots of the monistat to clear it.

And I feel like I get them quite often.
I am thinking it's hormonal since having DD.

I know I need to bring this up to my gyn- but I don't have an appt for a while.

Just curious if anyone else dealt with this and what your gyn said?

Re: Recurrent Yeast Infections?

Being that it keeps coming back it could be your partner is re-infecting you... if that isn't the case, it sometimes can be a reaction to a new detergent, fabric softener or even something in your diet.

The fact that you keep re-treating and it continues to come back means you should bring it to your Drs. attention.

You may also just need a stronger medicine.

I once had this problem years ago and it was just resistant to the over the counter creams. She gave me a prescription cream for 7 days and also Diflucan to use at the same time. It FINALLY cleared up. It went on for months until we figured out the best approach and that worked.

Thanks. I do need to go see the Dr- I just have to get an appt.
I have a feeling the OTC stuff is not the greatest in cases like this.

I actually had it tested while I was pregnant and again afterwards- it came back normal.
I had heard that too- about the blood sugar thing.

Are you sure it's a yeast infection and not a bacterial infection? Similar symptoms but the treatments are very different. Feel betterChat Icon

Re: Recurrent Yeast Infections?

Yes I have dealt with them for a very very long time. The dr gives me boric acid suppositories now, which work FAR BETTER than any cream or diflucan!

Plus it's much better for you then using the cream over and over again. The dr also said the monistat stuff is junk and doesn't always cure it completely, which is why yours keeps coming back.

I'm telling you, ask about the boric acid suppositories, they saved me!

Thanks! I have done a lot of research and yes, boric acid comes up a lot in searches about yeast infection cures.
I will definitely ask next time I go.
This last one was a doozey... and with the holidays I had like ZERO time to get into the dr- but I was climbing the walls until the 2nd dose of Monistat finally kicked in.
I will definitely check into Boric acid.

Re: Recurrent Yeast Infections?

Call your doctors office and leave a message explaining for the doctor- when you speak to them explain what is going on- they will often find a time to see you or prescribe something over the phone. Things my doctor has told me to do to prevent recurrent yeast infections are 1) eat yogurt everyday 2) change your diet reducing your sugar intake 3)wear cotton panties or at the minimum panties with a cotton croch

I have found the OTC treatments irritate me making it worse the first couple of days.
