redoing a bathroom..and need input
on tub and shower combos.(not doing tile in shower)..but would you go with shower doors? or shower curtains?
we have a master bath so this will eventually be used only by our children. are shower doors a pain to keep clean? do they stay spotty?
any suggestions would be appreciated! thanks

Personally, I like shower curtains because, if you want to give your bathroom a facelift, you can change the curtain.

Re: redoing a bathroom..and need input
I love shower doors especially if there is a window in the shower because it allows so much more light. I also dont like curtains because I think they get dirty really quickly and I always feel I am trying to keep the water from getting out. We are redoing our bathroom now and we got shower doors.
On teh spots note. My mom had us use a sqeegy (sp?) to wipe the water off the doors and the walls and I don't remember it beign an issue. I don't use one on our 3/4 bath and there are some spots on it but soft scrub seems to do the trick.

Re: redoing a bathroom..and need input
they say kitchens and baths help sell a home, with that said shower doors tend to be more desirable. but its all personal prefence.
Shower doors with a hinge, not tracks are much easier to keep clean, and if you get flat glass, not a frosted, its very simple to keep clean.
Personally, shower curtains always skeeve me, they never seem clean to me after just a few uses (I have one now, and I don't like it)
But with small children a shower curtain is so much easier. the tracks (if you go that route) hurt your stomach when you have to lean over to give baths, and they usually have to stack to one side so if you had more then one child in the tub, doors make it hard to reach them if they go over to the side thats closed

All great points here.

Re: redoing a bathroom..and need input
we had to take our doors out when the kids were using the bathtub. with 2 there would be no way i could reach both of them.

Definitely curtains
I had doors in my old apartment and hated them. Curtains are much nicer.

Re: redoing a bathroom..and need input
we have curtains in ours......my MIL had doors, and took them out to have curtains again, but that was mainly so when the grandkids slept over she could give them a bath, without it being awkward working around the doors.
if its going to be primarily for your kids, I'd go w/ curtains. does your master bath have doors or curtains?

Re: redoing a bathroom..and need input
I'm more a fan of shower curtains. I find shower doors kind of restricting, plus it's really hard to bathe a child in a tub with them.

Re: redoing a bathroom..and need input
We have a shower door with hinges. I like it. I hate when the shower curtain touches me when I'm in or getting out of the shower. They always seem dirty to me. The door is not hard to clean. I just clean it with the rest of the shower.
I do miss shower curtains sometimes when I want to decorate, but that's it.

I HATE my shower doors, I feel like I'm constantly cleaning them. I also don' like that people can see right into my tub - I feel like I always have to have the tub neat and clean!

Re: redoing a bathroom..and need input
When we bought our house I was in love with our shower doors. Until we moved in. I HATE them now! There is NO product on the market that keeps them clean and when the light from the window comes in it makes the doors look even worse. I've been trying to convince DH to take them out, but he wanted to keep them...until today. We wanted to re-do the bathroom but don't have the money now since we are expecting out first baby. So, we are going to take the doors off and put a curtain up to change things up a bit. Plus, a shower curtain will be easier when it comes to bathtime. We wash the dog in the shower and it is such a PITA cause you can't gain full access to the tub.

Re: redoing a bathroom..and need input
i prefer shower curtains because if you use a neutral color in the bathroom, you can easily change the whole look in there. new towels new shower curtain = new bathroom for <$100.00.

Re: redoing a bathroom..and need input
Glass is much more elegant and gives the appearance of a larger room.
On the other hand, if you have kids as others have stated curtains would probably be best.

Totally your preference. I grew up with shower doors and really don't like them. I prefer curtains.
