Refinishing/ Refacing cabinets?
Is this very costly to do?

I had Home Depot come in just this past Friday to give me an estimate for refacing. I have a lot of cabinets and a pantry. They quoted almost $12,000 for laminate but it included the knobs/handles of my choice. I've decided not to do it since I have solid oak cabinets and will paint them instead.

OMG! wow! I just want mine fixed. I actually have 7 yr old cabinents. I just want a darker stain.

That is my problem, too. I have custom cabinets that are 10 years old and I absolutely HATE the lighter color. I tried staining it darker, too but the grain of the wood in the darker stain drove me crazy (thank God I only tested it on a small obscure area) so for my solution I am going to paint them a beigy-sand color and the pantry a totally different color (I think something maroon-ish) and add glass inserts in some of the cabinets.

Are you going to do this yourself? I really want to redo my cabinets like this but I am nervous about it.

Yes, with the help of my sister who is a decorator. From what I have been researching it is not difficult at all, just time consuming. I will send the doors out after being painted to have the glass put it. Not starting it until the end of summer.
