refrigerator question. counter depth or not

Question. We're gutting our entire kitchen in the new house, but probably leaving the fridge where it is now, bc we like the positioning of it...We wanted to get a sub zero, but my issue with them, is that unless ur paying A LOT more and getting a monster size one, the capacity of them aren't big, and we need a BIG fridge. We then saw the samsung one that just came out and it's huuuuuuge it's the largest capacity french door normal end on the market, but loooove how big it is, but the sales lady said it'll stick out bc it's not counter depth..now here's my question, where would you put a fridge like that aren't most fridge's adjacent to a cabinet or counter so that it would stick out no matter what..why would they even make it like this...I'm really confused...is there anyway we could go with a fridge like that and not have it stick out...DH is still stuck on the sub z, so we're still looking, but wanted to just figure this out!

Thanks!!

We have a counter depth and while it does still sticks out past the cabinets, it looks more built in.

We have ours next to our pantry, so I guess it depends on where it is positioned in a room. If we went with a regular fridge, it would stick out way too much. We have a center island that we had to take into account.

Re: refrigerator question. counter depth or not

The vast majority of refrigerators AREN'T counter depth. It cost more money to make them that way.

Subzero fridges are towards or near the bottom of the reliability ratings on most independent review sites.

Re: refrigerator question. counter depth or not

I think if your fridge is between 2 cabinets it would look better flushed. But if your fridge is at the end or next to a wall it wont look bad if it sticks out. But our cabinet guy told us you shouldn't put a fridge next to a wall that sticks out because then you can't open your fridge door all the way.KWIM.The counter depth fridge's look nice but they are so much smaller inside. It is very annoyingChat Icon

We opted to alter our wall when we did our gut so a large fridge would appear counterdepthChat Icon The cd ones were considerably smaller and with 4 people we need as big as we can get. I went with a KitchenAid french door and I LOVE it! I fit party platters, cakes etc. It was DH's idea to do this and it saved us money too bc cd's are always more expensive.

My sis just got one that is counter depth and it still sticks out. Also she said she cant fit much into the freezer. She doesnt cook much but still feels there isnt enough room. Thank god she has a spare in her garage so she can put anything else in there.

if your doing a reno, make the whole deeper or the wall come out further then attach the cabinets so it appears cabinet depth if you don't want to spend the extra money

I hate the look of a fridge sticking out!

If you are gutting the kitchen, I would get a regular depth one and build around it.

Re: refrigerator question. counter depth or not

i have a counter depth and it still sticks out past the cabinets. THANK GOD i got it though b/c i can't imagine how much worse it would have looked with a standard sized fridge.

like someone else said - if you are re-doing the entire kitchen you can build around any size fridge to make it fit. if the cabinets are already there i'd go for the counter depth. to me it was worth the extra money (especially due to the layour of my kitchen).

Re: refrigerator question. counter depth or not

Well.... it depends what you are having your fridge next to...

I like the look of a counter depth fridge.. however, my mother has a standard depth fridge but it stands alone. My dad (Dynamic Kitchens) made a cabinet that goes around it w/ the doors on top and it's all flush- so the fridge doesn't stick out from it...

It's one benefit to going custom.

Re: refrigerator question. counter depth or not

i know people with counter depth that hate them bc they're too shallow and they can't fit stuff in them... the difference is only about 5-6 inches so it's not that big of a deal. if your fridge is going to be at the end, next to a wall, etc. then i would just stick with the regular!

We did the exact same thing, built the wall out behind the fridge, so we could fit the deeper kitchen aid french door fridge

The counter depth ones are alot smaller
ours looks built in
