Refusing Food!
For the past 2 days, well, ever since her spay on Friday, Lilly hasn't wanted to eat. She will nibble her kibble but not chow down like she used to. She leaves 95% of her food in her bowl.
We recently transitioned her to AvoDerm and she loved it at first - could she have changed her mind about it?
She also threw up a lot of clear mucous this morning at 5:00. Could this have been from not eating?
Any suggestions as to what I can do for her?
Thanks, as always!

Re: Refusing Food!
aww---poor thing!
i would give a call to the vet real quick and see if they have any suggestions for you. after surgery...anything like that should be brought to the attention of the doc....it might be nothing--but might as well just give a call.
hope she starts feeling better soon

she could have thrown up from having an upset stomach from not eating. My dogs do it all the time when they haven't eaten (throw up).
Is there any treat you can give her that she WILL eat to get something in her stomach fast?

I gave her 3 of her favorite little biscuits while trying to coerce her to eat this morning. I am hoping she will be fine all day. I had to leave her at 7:30 this morning and won't be home to her until around 6:30 tonight. My neighbor is coming in to feed her lunch and walk her around 3:30 (the time I normally get home). DH is away on a business trip and I have mandatory meetings at work that I can't get out of this week.
UGH - this is stressful! I just wish she would eat!
I think I might try boiling some chicken tonight and feeding her that for dinner - at least she'll have something in her little tummy......

Re: Refusing Food!
If you are feeding her dry food, try mixing some organic plain yogurt in there, maybe to soften it up a bit for her. Also, you can try giving her Nutri-Cal which is a supplement you can give dogs in times of distress, they go nuts for it!

ITA with this. (Although I would not give yogurt b/c if it is a reaction to something this may not help). Also the mucous can be as a result of not eating, but it does not hurt to call the vet to make certain it is not a reaction to the surgery or the anesthesia.
Is it possible that her throat is sore from the anesthesia tube? I know Pyxie had a very bad sore throat after her surgery, and I had to give her this red cherry medicine (from the vet) to coat her throat so she could eat and drink comfortably. Also ask the vet if you need to soften the food with water if this is indeed the case.
Hope she feels better soon.

Thank you! I am sure that her throat is a little sore - I am going to run out and pick up some wet food and mix some rice in with it for her dinner tonight.
We also got a tube of - gosh, I can't remember the name of it - stuff that we were supposed to give her if she became lethargic or anything. Do you think that I should try a little bit of that with her?
Please send us good eating and no pukey vibes for tonight!

Please send us good eating and no pukey vibes for tonight! The tube, is it the puppy vitamin? If so then definitely add this daily. Even if it does not encourage her to eat more she will get more concentrated nutrients while she is healing.

This sounds like the same thing as the Nutri-Cal, I give it to my puppy in the AM and PM every day.
Def. try that to at least get some nutrients in her/him
