Reg D Charge - Updated First Post
Check this article
I called the Bank - The woman I spoke to was so helpful. She refunded my $35 from the fees taken from my account and told me that the person that set my account up messed up and some of my debits were going to my savings and not my checking account in which it was supposed to be going to.
She changed everything and now I shouldnt have any problem with that Req D fee.

Re: Reg D Charge - Need Bank Recommendations
If it's a regulation then it's with every bank not just your bank.

I was going to say the same thing!
I got hit, through Chase, a while ago with the same thng and I was told too many transfers in a month. So I just limit my transfers and havent had a problem since.

Re: Reg D Charge - Need Bank Recommendations
Reg D applies to ALL banks for savings accounts. You are only allowed a certain number of transactions (transfers/ACH) per month - normally 10.
It won't matter where you transfer accounts to - you will still be charged.
A savings account should not be used as a checking account.

It's true. We use Bank of America and got charged once for making too many transactions. You just have to be careful and make transactions only when you really need to. For example, DH pays the bills on one day of the month. He figures out what the total of all the bills will be and then transfers the money from our savings to our checking account. That way, if we have an emergency or a bill we forgot about, we don't have to worry if we're nearing our transaction limit.

Re: Reg D Charge - Need Bank Recommendations
when I transfer money online with Citibank I know I only have a certain number of transfers a month- but I have never been charged- they will put up a warning pop up
and I can go to bank or ATM to transfer
I have a few accounts- and try not to keep money in checking- only to transfer for it when I need it
everyone has there own system that works for them- Scott- maybe try citibank?
I even have a 5% e savings account with them

Re: Reg D Charge - Need Bank Recommendations
I belong to a teachers credit union, because my mom was a teacher. There is a branch that is 20 minutes away. It is a PITA.
I was thinking about finding a closer bank anyway.
What does Regulation D charge you for? Transferring from one account to the other.
Using your debit card to purchase items?
Using your debit card to buy stuff online?
Do they charge you for using the ATM?
I use the debit card, so I dont use my credit card.
I dont know why they were taking the money out of my savings, when I dont have the savings hooked up to my debi card.
Makes no sense. Scott

Making online transfers from Savings to Checking.
You can only do it a certain amount a month (Probably 6 w/ TFCU)

Honestly not sure in regards to the debit card, but they definitely charge for too many transfers from one account to the other.

Re: Reg D Charge - Need Bank Recommendations
I also have a credit line attached to my checking account- so if I go over what I have- it just uses the credit
then I transfer it from another account- I find that this works best for me- and it limits me using a real credit card

I dont do that many transfers from one account to another - maybe 1 a month.
On my statement it looked like they were taking the $5 out each time I used the card in a store. I dont even know why it would come out of my savings when my savings isnt hooked up to my debit card

Yes- The credit union allows 6 transfers per month. After that you will be charged.

Look at your savings account and see if you've made transfers to/from your checking. Also if you've had "checks" run through your savings - such as an ACH (automated) payment, that would count.
The charges are not on your checking account, but for your savings account.

Is it possible that when there aren't sufficient funds available in your checking, that they take from the savings? I know my account does this.

Some banks charge 1.00 for you to use the debit card as a DEBIT when you put in your pin. IF you use it as a CREDIT they don't charge are you sure thats not it.

Re: Reg D Charge - Need Bank Recommendations
I have enough money in the account so that isnt the issue.
I just counted the transactions on one of my statements.
The fees are taken off my trips to waldbaums, uncle guisseppes, target etc. I dont know why the $5.00 would be taken off those stores, and I did maybe 1 or 2 transfers from savings to checking.
Odd

Did you use your card as a credit or debit there?

It's possible. Some banks charge to use your card as a debit but not as a credit.
