Re: Religous Catholics - Christening Question
It is critical to me that the godparents be Catholic. I'm asking them to participate in the religious journey and education of my child; how can they do that if they are not the same religion or have no religion.
To me, being a godparent is not just about being a good person and someone I like a lot. There is a specific purpose to the appointment and we want to choose people who are examples of this and who will care and love our DC. Like others said, for us the godparent is not the person who will take care of DC should anything happen to us-those people have been designated in our will.
We picked my BFF and her husband for DD. For this child, we are having a tough time as we want different godparents for each child.

We're having the worst time. The two people that we'd love are both two different religions, but thankfully have a strong faith, which is very important to us.
My MIL keeps pushing my SIL on us, but seriously - she's 110% atheist...are you kidding me? How can someone who is an atheist be a Godparent - absolutely NOT!
I had a friend who wanted to be the GodFather.. (it's a little weird to have someone lobbying to be a godfather). He went to Chaminade and is confirmed but, totally doesn't believe in God anymore. I kept telling him that he doesn't believe in God.. he can't be the Godfather. Plus we have a million brothers between us. He was really insulted.

Funny...when I was PG with Rogan, my sister was lobbying to be Godmother! Yet she doesn't beleive in the Catholic (or any) organized religion!
