Rent Question
If you had an apartment to rent would you look at craigslist for those looking to find apts?
What would you require for references?

Re: Rent Question
i just rented our 2 fam through craigs list, actually a real estate agent contacted me and brought me a tenant.
we usually require their prior tenant references, or we try their place of business.

Re: Rent Question
if the apartment was in my house- I would use a real estate agent that could check credit etc- to be safe

Re: Rent Question
You should definitely get a credit check on the person as well as reference from his/her prior landlord. It costs about $20 for the credit check.

Re: Rent Question
My IL's rented their apt. by posting on craiglist.
They did require references and conducted a credit check.
In the past all of their tenants (they will only rent to a single occupant) were found via word of mouth so they were hestiant about doing it this way.

Re: Rent Question
We've tried renting it ourselves but it was a PITA more than anything. We have a 1BR and we actually had a family of FOUR come to see it and wouldnt stop bothering us when we told them no.
Ours is a legal apartment, so now, we let our relator list it. Its no cost to us and they can screen prospective renters and check out their background and credit. We've had great luck with the last 3 tenants we got from our realtor. Right now we have a young couple who got married last yr, both are teachers and they are great, They've been here almost 2 yrs.
I highly suggest a realtor if the apt you have is legal.
