Re: Rental Car seats?
Posted by mcl916
Thanks SO much for this info! We are renting from National so that is definately great to know that we won't have to take a shuttle
Did you sign up for emerald club -and make the ressie thru that? If so your ressie should read either emerald reserve or emerald aisle. If you did that then all you do is simply walk to the row that you reserved (i.e. minivan reserve etc) and pick any car on the lot, load it up, put in the seats and drive to the exit where they quickly will check you out - SOOOOO much easier than waiting in line to check in for a car. We did emerald reserve in the past but you are only guaranteed a midsize - but we got suv's in the past - but my parents did it this year and the largest car on there was a full size that was just returned. We rented a 7 person minivan (but they mix in the 7 and 8 person ones) and ended up with an 8 person b.c that was all that was on the row. We got a toyota sienna - which was great btw.
If you didn't do your ressie thru emerald club - go to mousesavers.com and they have a link to sign up for the membership for free. (they also have all the links to all the coupon and corporate ID codes and you can play around and see if you can get a better deal) - otherwise after you join try to make a new booking under your emerald club number so that you don't have to wait in any lines. If they run out of any type of car they get them from Alamo just an FYI since they are own by the same company.
I don't remember having to go up stairs to get to the cars but you will have to go downstairs to get to baggage claim - there are PLENTY of elevators so don't try to go down the escalators or stairs. MCO is really pretty family friendly. - The garage is literally across the street from the terminal (there is an A and B terminal and they both function the same as BOTH alamo and national have cars in the parking garage in A and B). Also a tip I learned from disboards.com but never used is if you don't see anything you want in the place you are in - send one member of your party to the other lot it is next door in the garage and see if the other side has a car you want it doesn't matter if you check out of A or B.
The other thing is if you are getting one car, one person could go and get the car and get started and the others can wait with the baggage then people can take turns with the cart bringing bags to the car while one loads so you are not all trying to carry a lot at once. This way one person can say install seats, one person ferry bags from the terminal to the car and load, and one wait with the strollers so then all you have to all lug is the strollers with your children or have the person driving come and pick up the children after the bags and car seats are installed.

Re: Rental Car seats?
When we went to orlando we rented 2 car seats. If i recall correctly its $5 a day per seat. and even though we reserved them they still said that they couldn't guarantee that they would have them when we got there. Needless to say when we got there they had the seats, but they were horrible. The one for the older child didn't even have straps or a harness and they told us to use the regular car seat strap over it like a booster(which BTW it wasn't a booster) and the other one was so dirty and disgusting. After going in there and complaing really loud and alot they found us better seats that first of all had the safety harnessess they were supossed to and were slightly cleaner. But they still were not the greatest. don't know what age kids your traveling with but you might want to at minimum bring atleast one seat with you that you would be comfortable fitting the youngest child in.

So everyone usually brings their own seat? I'm suprised more people haven't rented, I never would have thought of bringing our own before
We brought ours and they let us take it on the plane - there and back - so Ryan had a place to sit. It wasn't fun for DH to carry it (but we had the backpack case for it) but it was worth it to have our own.
