Replace oil burner or convert to natural gas?
We may be selling our home in the near future and we are at a point where our current oil burner should really be replaced so we've discussed possibly converting instead. Is natural gas more attractive to buyers? We already have it for our stove and washer/dryer so I would think the convert for the heat wouldn't be hard....

We are in the market right now and trying to avoid buying a house with oil at all costs!

YES - So many buyers want gas now. It's definitely still considered an upgrade, given that in most areas of LI, oil is still predominant. Buyers know it's less expensive than oil, plus cleaner and more convenient.
A lot of buyers talk about converting to gas, if a house has oil, and they research how close the gas line is, etc.
If you have to buy a whole new oil heating system anyway, and you have gas in the house, definitely convert to gas. No question!

Convert assuming you can. Many houses can't convert. My house for instance has no gas lines and the closest gas lines are about 5-6 blocks away from my house. The likelihood of gas coming my way is slim since I live in a cul-de-sac type of ares where there are just houses surrounded by state preserve.
My oil burner is over 20 years old and it's undersized for my house as it's the original burner that was here before my dormer. I am thinking about replacing the burner and replacing the oil tank. I would like to get something more efficient if possible.
While buyers want gas, in my area there is no gas so it's not like I am competing with other sellers that have gas. And if I were to upgrade my burner, while it's not gas a new efficient oil burner would have value.

Thanks girls, that's what I thought, it seemed like a no brainer especially since we got screwed with our oil bill last year!

If you can and a gas line is available then I would convert. DH and I looked for homes that had gas heat in our search, so yes this may be more appealing to buyers.
