Replacing interior doors?
Has anyone done this? We need to have someone do it b/c we aren't handy. They are original doors with metal moldings so we need to replace those too.
Any idea what this costs? There are 6 doors we need.

We have 10 doors to replace. We were looking at doors in Home Depot & I noticed the sign that they charge $170 per door. DH is handy so him and his friends are going to do ours.

Replacing interior doors?
I would look for a handy man to give you quotes and I would probably buy the materials myself if you know what size door to get so when you get a quote its for just labor and not material that's way you know what the labor is actually costing vs not know how much is being charged for material and labor. but that's me. either way I would probably call different people to compare pricing I would think lowes and home depot might be on the higher side. Also door them selves can be expensive depending on which ones you get.

Replacing interior doors?
You need to replace the doors and the frames? Even if your DH is handy, replacing the frames is something I would let a contractor or someone that knows how to do it replace them.
My DH is in the commercial door industry and although it seems like its an easy job, each doorway is different.

Yes, probably the frames and moldings. They are metal and old and have been painted 800 times. If it were just hanging a door on the hinge it wouldn't be a big deal, but we aren't handy at all. It's a situation where its better to pay someone b/c a divorce is more expensive. DH doesn't handle home improvement crap well and we can't work together. Hanging pictures is an issue.

We had to do this but my husband is pretty handy. Keep in mind that when you remove the metal frames the new wood ones might not fit perfectly so there might be " holes" in the floor. We had to get the wood sanded and replaced when we did the doors on my first floor.

That's a good idea. The doors themselves are pretty cheap.

I had a handyman do 2 of my doors and he charged about 200 for each door! But he built the doors out of a slab of wood and one room didn't have a door on it previously. My guy was awesome - just didn't paint the door! FM me if you want the name - I am in Nassau!

I just replaced two interior doors for our bathroom and bedroom and the doors themselves (to match the older style with thick moulding) were around $150 a piece I think. We also had our contractor neighbor install them because they can be a pita to install and fit properly (since we weren't changing the frame) and you want to make sure they are level and not swinging in and out on their own. Both were done, with knobs and stuff, within 2 hours.

16 years ago, my dad and I took out all the doors and cut out the metal frames with a sawzall down to the floor.
Darn hard work.
Although Dad is very handy, we hired a carpenter friend of his to install the pre-hung doors and all the moulding in the apartment.
5 single doors and 3 double doors (for closets).
I did the staining and varnishing.
