Repost from Pregnancy for all you BTDT: how do i know if its labor??
ive been having some lower back pain and a lot of pressure in my pelvic area. im also having some contractions but i am not noticing any pattern.
i dont know if i should be concerned or not??? my question is this...if i am already about 90% effaced and 3-4 cm dilated (i have been this way since 32 wks and was on bed rest - i was taken off bed rest last week, i am now 36), when should i start worrying. if i do go into labor, i wont have much time before im even more dilated, right??!! and since im already almost entirely effaced and dilated, arent i passed the early labor signs??
im just nervous bc i didnt feel any real pain to get to where i am now, just discomfort. i guess im just waiting to feel intesnse pain...
for those that have already been through labor...what should i be looking for??

It's so funny b/c so many of us posted this question during our pregnancy and people just kept saying you'll know and you don't know what they mean or whether to believe them and it sounds so cheesy but it's true when it's really happeing it's soooo intense you can't miss it or mistake it. YOU'LL KNOW!

Lower back pain and pelvic pressure are normal pg symptoms of late 3rd trimester. baby is settling in your pelvis getting ready for birth
Like the AP said, it's def sounds cheesy but you will so know when you are in labor. The pain is unmistakenable!
Real Labor feels like menstrual cramps from hell, like nothing you have ever felt before. They come in regular intervals, and get closer and closer together and longer in length. Your whole tummy will get hard.
Hang in there!

I go to the dr. and ask them.
I've done this twice and both times didn't realize i was in labor on my own! haha
You should see some sort of pattern...time between the pain AND the pain itself should seem "wavelike" (or peak) you may or may not feel like you need to poop/bear down and it can be in your back or your belly. I've never had back labor. Also, with my first, it was classic and I felt it across my whole belly, the second time around, it was only low like where "cramps" are.
