Re: BTDT Moms - bringing on labor

I am not sure if it brought it on, but I WALKED WALKED WALKED and WALKED some more the last two weeks before i had DD.

I went into labor at 39w3ds.

I don't believe in the eggplant thing, chinese food, spicy food or the awful castor oil thing-seems to me all they would do woould make you feel horrid.
ETA: I ate all those things while pg, and didn't go into laborChat Icon I would never do castor oil, it could make DC have a bowel movement while inside-too dangerous.

Re: BTDT Moms - bringing on labor

The day before I went into labor, we tried just about everything (except castor oil), so I can't say if it was any one thing, or a combination, or it was just time (I was over a week later already, and 10 days late by the time she was born)

I exercised in the pool (running/walking/jogging/squating), Al made the famous eggplant recipe, I was drinking raspberry tea all day, Al gave me a pressure point massage on my feet, and we even Chat Icon

That was Thursday. Contractions started at 4am that night.

Re: BTDT Moms - bringing on labor

I did it all, and even taught dance up until the day before my induction- which was 6 days past my due date. I really don't believe that anything can make it happen faster then it otherwise would.

Re: BTDT Moms - bringing on labor

I was 8 days late. nothing worked! I didn't try castor oil, though. I was too nervous.

Just taking nice long walks every day could help.

Re: BTDT Moms - bringing on labor

I so don't want to be late because I will be induced immediately due to a clotting disorder. I really wanted to go naturally....well I will try everything anyway and start walking a week before my due date. Thanks ladies!

Re: BTDT Moms - bringing on labor

I was 10 days early and had a fairly *easy* labor. I attribute it all to doing squats!!! I did them all the time...I really think they helped me dialate early and made labor easier for me.
Good luck!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: BTDT Moms - bringing on labor

You could try acupuncture. There are a few points that are "supposed" to induce labor.

I have read that taking Evening Primrose Oil helps soften the cervix and might help you dialate easier. Other than that I would suggest lots of exercise. I bagged 20 bags of leaves the day before I went into labor. But honestly, I think the baby comes when he's ready and there isn't much we can do to hasten it. If you are facing an induction you might try the EPO which might make the induction easier.

We tried everything--walking, eggplant, sex, pineapple (everything I read about) and nothing worked!

I think its all about the baby being ready Chat Icon

Did you use Barbara Charles? Was it castor oil with grape juice?

I am not in a rush yet, I still have 20 days to go!

I'd have to agree. I think they helped me dialate also and I had such a fast labor and delivery besides the pain easy labor. She came out in 3 pushes.

GOOD LUCK

Re: BTDT Moms - bringing on labor

My water broke at 4:45 AM Monday

On Sunday, we got up early and went to Bed, bath & beyond and walked around for an hour or so, came home and then went to my town's street fair and walked around there for a few hours. I ate 2 bbq hamburgers at the fairChat Icon and came home exhausted. I really believe it was all the walking. I went 1 week early. Good luckChat Icon

Re: BTDT Moms - bringing on labor

I never tried to bring on labor but had a chiropractic adjustment which I believe was the cause of my labor. I had been getting adjusted throughout for a few weeks. The doctor who was adjusting me explained that I needed to be adjusted gently, it coudn't be a traditional adjustment (where you here your back crack - if you get adjustments you'll know what I mean).

He was out & had someone covering for him. I asked "Have you done maternity adjustments?" She said yes, then adjusted me as a regular adjustment. That was at 8pm. By 3am by water broke & I went into premature labor.

I've heard nipple stimulation, sex, spicy food & walking around. I did have to walk an enormous amount the week before (9/11), but don't think that had anything to do with it.

Oh wait just remembered. My sister went to school for acupressure/acupuncture. She did pressure points to speed her labor along.

Between your thumb & forefinger is a fleshy spot. You're not supposed to press on that spot unless you want to stimulate the uterus to contract. Her acupuncture teacher did the needles, etc for her. (she also went natural since it supposedly speeds up labor)
