Rhogam Shot covered by Insurance?
If you needed Rhogam, was it covered by your insurance? Mine was covered for my 1st pregnancy and for some reason it isnt covered now.

Re: Rhogam Shot covered by Insurance?
it's something that's necessary, I don't see why they wouldn't cover it. Did you call them up?

Re: Rhogam Shot covered by Insurance?
That is very surprising...I would definately give them a call b/c it is medically necessary...unless the father is also negative.

Re: Rhogam Shot covered by Insurance?
I called my prescription insurance which is medco and they said they don't cover it. Rite aid doesnt carry it but they told me to call the medicine center in Lindenhurst. They have it and its $130. WIth my 2nd pg it wasnt covered but my old dr was able to get it for me.
Then im on the phone with Medco and i ask her about the Rhogam and she gives me the information about Rogaine. I said RHOGAM and spelt it for her and again she gave me the info for rogaine. Its funny how they would cover rogaine and not rhogam.

They aren't covering mine either because they say it isn't 'medically necessary' and the best part is that I have insurance specifically for RN's... hello - I know the necessity for it.. .. they will pay my OB to 'administer the shot' but wont cover the cost of it.. $150...

I am sorry, but how is it NOT medically necessary??!!! If I don't get teh shot I may not be able to have any other children. . .seems pretty important to me! I am going to the OB tomorrow and should get the prescription then so I will let you know if I run into the same problem.

I get my prescriptions through medco as well. I got a shot of Rhogham when I had a D&C while in the hospital and it was covered (at the time we didnt know DH's blood type). I ended up not needing the shot for this PG b/c DH is A- so I never had to get it....I would have been P*SSED if it wasn't covered though. If I were you, would call your insurance company directly...if still no luck talk to your Dr's office. Maybe there is another office you can go to to get the shot.

Oh god, i went through this same exact thing. Fortunately I went through it with my first pregnancy two years ago and I knew now on my second to get the prescription from my OB early. I too have Medco for prescriptions. And they WILL not pay for it. A lot of OB's don't even write a prescription and have the shot in the office and bill your medical plan. But mine did not. My medical plan is required to pay for it. they pay for the second shot in the hospital if your child is positive. I had to call several times to finally speak to someone at Empire BCBS that would help me. It goes through their special needs department. This is a medical necessity. Keep calling until you get someone on the phone that will help you. And keep calling your Medical plan, not your prescription plan. Good Luck! If you have Empire BCBS, FM me. I think I might have the department # you need to call.
