Rice cooker... is it worth it?
I make rice probably 3x a week or more, but I do it in a pot. Yea it sticks to the pot on the bottom, but the rice comes out so good! Is the rice cooker better? Does it really not stick at all? I wouldn't want to waste $$ on it if it's going to be the same as making in a regular pot.
And which one would you recommend?
TIA!

Re: Rice cooker... is it worth it?
Heck yes! I have a huge Cuisinart one, and a tiny one I use for just us. I LOVE it.
edit: you cannot put the silver actual rice pot in the dishwasher, FYI...hand wash.

Re: Rice cooker... is it worth it?
I love mine. I just put it on and go about my business- it turns itself to warm when the rice is done and it never, ever burns.

Re: Rice cooker... is it worth it?
Ditto...just got one from Williams Sonoma (cuisinart) and love it. I dont make rice often but since i have the space, I figured it was worth it so I dont have to watch the rice. It also acts as a warmer to keep the food warm when its done, which is great and steams too.
LOVE IT, if you make rice 3 times a week its soo worth it.

Re: Rice cooker... is it worth it?
I have one that I don't use..I wish I could give it to you, its a really nice stainless steel one.
Unless you are going to get a fancy Japanese fuzzy logic one, (for me) rice in a pan tastes nicer.

It is totally worth it. They aren't that expensive either. We have several because my husband is Chinese.

Re: Rice cooker... is it worth it?
Totally worth it. You don't need an expensive one. You get perfect rice every time and it doesn't stick and you never have to worry about the pot boiling over.
The only con, in my opinion, is sometimes I like when the rice burns on the bottom and you get the crunchy bottom later. YUMMY.

Re: Rice cooker... is it worth it?
SO worth it....
I got hooked on one as a teenager...my stepmom NEVER did rice in anything else and when I moved out, she got me my own.
Plus they steam veggies too!

Re: Rice cooker... is it worth it?
I found the cuisinart one on the BB&B website...
For those who have this one, does the rice come out good or sticky? I hate sticky rice!

If rice is sticky, it is because you aren't putting enough water in the pot. Same thing if it is too soft. It has little to nothing to do with the pot itself. You will get better at it with practice.

I was just going to say this.
if you precook your rice grains in oil or butter before adding water (Yum), I don't think I rice cooker will do ya.
it comes out more like white rice from the chinese restaurant.

my spanish white rice clean riice put rice in pot to boil with water just an inch over rice and oill (enough to cover top surface)on high heat.
sprinkle salt in.
Then once the water disappears, reduce to low heat, move rice and cover. Repeat for another 20-25 minutes.
