Rides at Disney

My DD's are almost 5, 3 1/2 and 8 months old. What rides do you recommend taking them on? I'm trying to plan out my days so that we are not just walking the parks aimlessly. If I have an idea of what rides are good for them I won't feel like we wasted a ton of time just walking around.

We plan to go to Magic Kingdom, Epcot and do a morning at Hollywood Studios (only because we have breakfast reservations there one morning). We have no interest in going to Animal Kingdom or any of the water parks.

Also besides It's a Small World, what rides can my 8 month old go on. I would like to try to have us all go on together, but I am aware that there is the rider swap option also.

Peter pan

Re: Rides at Disney

You can go on everything in the park that doesn't have a height requirement. At MK that is very few rides that the baby can't do - Space mountain (44 inches), Splash mountain and Big Thunder mountain railroad (40 inches), and stitches great escape (worth missing btw - 40 inches). Other than those your baby can ride everything else in the park. The only places that allow baby swap are rides that have a height requirement.

EPCOT - Mission space is (44 inches) soarin and test track are both I think 40 inches. Everything else is fine for the whole family.

HS - Tower of terror is 40 inches, and so is start tours I'm pretty sure. Rock n Roller coaster is 44 inches. Toy Story mania is a great ride without a height requirement BUT I will say I brought my 12 month old on it and thought it swung her around a lot - not sure if I would take a 9 month old on it even if they could ride. It really spins around.

Is there a reason that you don't want to do AK? Many people I know actually prefer it over HS with younger children. It is not just a zoo - we belong to the bronx zoo and they are completely different. In addition to some nice rides there are some great shows (finding nemo and the lion king). My girls like HS but greatly prefer AK over it. We don't do the water parks because I think they aren't great with really little ones.

Thank you Caren and Christine Chat Icon

Christine, my girls are not animal kids so I assumed they would be turned off by AK, maybe I'm wrong??

Also, do you know anything about the photo pass (i'm sure you do)? Do you know if you can get a card, look at the pictures when you get home and then decide if you want to purchase a package? Or do you have to purchase the package and hope the photos on there where worth the money?

Here's a blog post I wrote about PhotoPass basics and one about pre-purchasing your PhotoPass.

If you think you might want PhotoPass, go ahead and pre-purchase with the discount. There's a money-back guarantee so if you don't like your pictures, no problem!

You have two options. There is usually a deal where if you prepay before your trip the CD is $99. You get every photopass photo you take (and you can add your own)- I think you can put up to something like 400-500 on there. We usually get about 300. But we use it as much as we possibly can since we prepay for it.

The other option would be to simply come home look at the photos and if you like them them buy the CD which would be around $150. The CD are not printed photos - but you do get a cd and you are given the photography rights so you can take it to any photo place or upload them to shutterfly etc and print them on your own. A single photo runs about $15 at WDW so if you take a lot of photos it is worth it. I always bring my own camera and take pictures - but I use it for family photos - in front of the castle, etc. Also they are at the character meet and greets so you get several photos at a time when you see one character.

As far as whether your children will like AK - well - the safari is the only ride that is really all about animals - but it IS a nice ride. There is a dinosaur ride (40 inch height requirement), a riverraft ride (38 inch requirement - you will get soaked), a dinosaur ride like dumbo, plenty of opportunities to meet characters like Pooh, tigger, mickey etc.

There are also several live shows - The finding nemo one and the lion king (if you go to youtube you can see clips of the shows to see if you would be interested) - also there is a 4d movie of its a bugs life. Honestly we rarely see many live animals - there are plenty of places to see them but we have so many other things to do that we just skip it since we have the Bronx zoo pass. I think you really can't compare it to a zoo. Additionally there is a fun play area called the boneyard where the kids can dig in the sand and uncover bones and climb and play to let off some steam.

The reason WE don't love HS as much with the young kids (and again this is very subjective as some agree and others will disagree with me - it is really a personal choice) - you have to love shows. There is a great ride toy story mania. The muppets 4d show, and then most everything else has a height requirement or is a show. There is a disney jr show that is great - but it depends on your children - will they want to go and sit for much of the day for shows - you 5 year old probably will but when my girls were 12 months and almost 3 - aside from disney jr and muppet movie - they weren't into the shows at HS as much as they were at the other parks. Again I think whether you prefer AK or HS really is a toss up and really depends on your child's likes and dislikes. If your children are more active then AK might be a better choice - if they prefer to sit and love shows then HS might be better.

Re: Rides at Disney

pretty much all the ridesd the pp mentioned before, but i would definately suggest going to the animal kingdom. i know you are there inthe morning for a breakfast at HS, but they really aren't very kid friendly at all. Mostly roller coasters and those stunt shows, but i don't know that girls at that age would sit long enough for it or be very interested.

AK has amazing rides for kids, plus lots of those shows that you sit and watch like a movie that is 3D and you involve allof your senses (like the one in MK, i forget what its called but its Mickey's Fantasia)

Also had lots of smaller coasters for kids and have like a little walkthough with dinosaurs they can climb on (in the dinosaur section of the park)

Re: Rides at Disney

Thanks for all the recs, everyone!

I planned out our itinerary (somewhat) for the week so I'm going to see about squeezing animal kingdom in there.
