Right after you delivered your baby
were you given potocin in your drip to contract your uterus back to normal?
I had a natural birth (no meds) and after DD was born I felt small contractions. I aksed the stupid beyotch nurse why I was having contractions if i already had the baby. She told me it was the potocin drip she had put in me. Oh thanks for telling me! Very nice to NOT tell me what you're putting in MY body. To this day I want to choke her. I am due in March and I do not want this to happen again. However if it is something they need to do then I will have no other choice. I just wish i was told what was entering my body. It's my right! Everyone I asked says they don't think they had to empty 2 bags of potocin after delivering.

Re: Right after you delivered your baby
They took the IV out right after baby was born. I was just told to sleep on stomach to help uterus to go down

Re: Right after you delivered your baby
I don't recall if they gave me pitocin AFTER. I had some before, but they wpund up turning it off because it hyperstimulated me and wound up contracting on my own.
After the birth, I nursed and they massaged my abdomen but never mentioned if they gave me additional pit.

Re: Right after you delivered your baby
i had a normal vaginal delivery and nursed immediately, but was still given pitocin to help the uterus contract. i believe i got one bag, and then they took the IV out. i wasn't upset about it - it actually seemed to help my uterus a lot, and got the bad contractions out of the way while i still had my epidural.

What hospital was this? My epidural wore off before the pushing (felt the 2 hours of pushing--oh my pain) and then after took Iv out and gave me no meds for pain, only tylenol.

i live in NC, delivered at durham regional hospital. by the time i got to the hospital i was already 5cm, and i didn't get my epi until 7-8cm, about 3 hours before i gave birth. they kept the epidural going for the whole thing, and it took a little while after the birth to wear off completely. afterwards i was offered tylenol, ibuprofen, and percocet for pain. i took some ibuprofen, didn't need the percocet (and wouldn't have wanted it anyway because i was nursing...).

Re: Right after you delivered your baby
I had a natural also (no drugs, except an antibiotic because it premature labor).
They gave me post partum pitociin either. My doctor told me beforehand that it was one of the non-negotiable options if I wanted his practice to deliver (the other was I had to deliver horizontally). He said without it, the risk of uterine rupture was too high. Personally it didn't bother me. I was 33 for my first delivery & planned on having more children.
My sister had stickers taped all over her chart regarding medication. I'm not sure if her mid-wife insisted on it or not.

Re: Right after you delivered your baby
yes they did which I found strange because they did not do that with my first...however now I wonder if that's what led to my excessive bleeding this time around

Re: Right after you delivered your baby
It bothered me b/c the beyotch nurse never otld me what she was doing. If she would have told me and explained to me what she was doign and why I had to have the potocin that I woudl have been ok with it all. No big deal. The funny thing was that I was able to deliever a baby with no drugs but when it came ot post partum potocin I was a baby and begged for pain meds. I totally understand (NOW) why I needed it. Maybe it's just me but the PP contractions bothered me. It hurt. Everyone else says it didn't bother them..... So i guess it is just me.
thanks everyone!

Re: Right after you delivered your baby
after my first baby-no
After baby #2 I started hemmeraging. They did a lot to stop the bleeding and then they started potocin.
After my baby#3 a was bleeding a little heavier than normal and since I hemmeraged after my last delivery they gave me potocin.
I was under the impression that only got it because my bleeding was heavier then they would have liked.

Re: Right after you delivered your baby
Yes they had me empty 1 bag of it.
They also massaged my uterus right after the C-section & that truly hurt more than the whole labor process

Re: Right after you delivered your baby
I had pitocin before b/c I was induced but they slowed it down, then shut it off sometime during the few hours before I gave birth. They didn't turn it on again after I gave birth. They did massage and push on my stomach a couple times during delivering the placenta and after that, they just checked on it a couple times.
Another reason why I wasn't thrilled with my experience. I thought they would've done a lot more (or tell me what to do) to help get my uterus down.

Nope, I had a natural drug free labor (not by choice..lol). I was given nothing after. I got pain meds by mouth when I asked for it

Re: Right after you delivered your baby
i don't think I did. Can you believe I'm not even sure. It's all kind of a blur looking back on it. But I'm going to have to say no. I did have an epi and a slow pitocin drip because I was induced, but after I delivered I know that I BF the baby right away and when they took him away I know I walked to the bathroom and I don't remember still being attached to anything.

Re: Right after you delivered your baby
I had a C-section and I do not think I really know what was in my IV. I was told about fluids, morphine and I think there was benadryl --could that be?

Re: Right after you delivered your baby
I don't remember, but I woudn't be surprised, I was hemmoraging badly after Andy was born. It was a little chaotic and stressful for a while until they got the bleeding under control.
