Riverhead Moms - School HELP!
I checked into the Pre-K and Kindergarten classes and their cutoff is December 1st. DD's birthday is December 2nd 
I CANNOT hold her back an entire year! She is so smart right now there is no way I could make her wait another year before starting Pre-K.
The woman I spoke to from the school district said she would have to go somewhere else for Kindergarten and then join up in 1st grade .
Any thoughts on where I could send her? I am not overly interested in a Catholic school but would do it as a last resort.

A lot of the chain daycare centers have kindergarten programs. My dd is in a preschool program and I can't tell you how happy I am. She is learning things that are taught in kindergarten. There are a couple of private schools by me that are well regarded and have a program for that age group.

Is it a recognized program by the schools that would qualify for K to get her into 1st grade? Where is it? I know you aren't too far from me...

I wish I had some info on preschools near you but I'm in East Islip. But, FTR... Kindergarten is not mandatory in the state of NY. I know you want your DD to go to Kindergarten but she doesn't need it to get into 1st grade. HTH!

What school was that? Have you checked into Riverhead Charter School? We're going to put Troy either there or St. Isidore's.

They won't let you have her tested to get into K? I know a few people who were in similar situations in districts near me that did that and their child got in. One was a month after the cutoff and he got in.

K isn't mandatory in NYS, so that is probably why they are suggesting that she do it elsewhere
Can I ask why she can't enter K with a December 2, but they won't give her an issue entering 1st grade?
(I'm guessing b/c she will have already completed K, but I don't want you to have a problem in a year)

I called the # on the school's website. The lady mentioned St. Isidore's and I didn't think of the Charter School. That is an idea!

I thought the same thing and now I am second guessing what she told me vs. how I may have interpreted it. Maybe I should ask again
