Room for 1 more? - Update at bottom

Hi Ladies

Just found out tonight at 8 weeks that the heart beat has dissapeared Chat Icon . I am going for a d&c on Saturday and I am petrified! I have also never been under anesthesia. I have a few questions for you ladies. I wish all of you the best of luck and hope our stay here is short !

1- Did you miscarry on your own or did you have a d&c?

2- How many days did you bleed for after the d&c?

3- Was it very painful after the d&c?

4- Did you have your d&c in your docs office or the hospitol?

4- How many cycles do you have to wait before you can start ttc?

5- How many miscarriages have you had before a healthy bfp if yet?

6- Where you ever given a reason on why you had a m/c ?

7 - Did any of you request for a 2nd sono just to make sure, right before your d&c?

Re: Room for 1 more?

I'm so sorry for your loss. When I had my first D&C I hadn't had any anesthesia or surgery at all really. It was scary but my doctor and the rest of the team in the OR made me feel really comfortable. I'll try to answer your questions:

1- I had a D&C, my dr waited for me to miscarry on my own but it didn't happen either time

2- I bled for about a week after the D&C, the first one I had really minimal bleeding, maybe 3 days at most but it was different circumstances bc she cauterized my cervix. The second time I bled heavily for the first 2-3 days and then lighter for the rest of the week

3- No I had minimal pain. Some cramping the day of but nothing that motrin didn't fix

4- I had my D&C at the ambulatory center at NSH

4- My doctor told me I can start trying after I get my period

5- I got a BFP on my 2nd cycle after my first D&C

6- The first m/c was due to a genetic abnormality, the 2nd was unexplained

7 - Yes, both times

1- Did you miscarry on your own or did you have a d&c?

For the loss of my triplets, I found out the way you did. I went for a sono and saw none of them had heartbeats. I had to have a d&c two days later.

2- How many days did you bleed for after the d&c?

I barely bled after.. mainly spotting... Then one day at random I actually did bleed but it literally just lasted like a few hours and then it was back to spotting. I spotted on and off for about 6 weeks.

3- Was it very painful after the d&c?

I didn't have any pain after the d&c Or d&e even. (d&e is if you are further along, which I was for my first pregnancy)

4- Did you have your d&c in your docs office or the hospitol?

My d&c was at Good Sam.

4- How many cycles do you have to wait before you can start ttc?

I had to wait 2 months after my first and last loss.

5- How many miscarriages have you had before a healthy bfp if yet?

Lets not even go there Chat Icon I am NOT the norm though.

6- Where you ever given a reason on why you had a m/c ?

Yup.... the first was a fluke and the chemical and the triplets were due to clotting issues.

7 - Did any of you request for a 2nd sono just to make sure, right before your d&c?

I didn't...... I was VERY confident my RE had it right on the day he told us there were no heartbeats. He looked very thoroughly. Chat Icon

FM me if you have ANY questions Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I can assure you the worst part of the d&c is the emotional aspect of it .... and also being in that hospital atmosphere is intimidating. Aside from that, I found that physically it was very easy. I was never in any kind of physical pain after either of my procedures.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know very well the heartache and disappointment youare feeling?

1- Did you miscarry on your own or did you have a d&c?
Had a D&c

2- How many days did you bleed for after the d&c?
I bled lightly for a few days then it got heavier before it went away.
3- Was it very painful after the d&c?
Not at all.

4- Did you have your d&c in your docs office or the hospitol?
Hospital

4- How many cycles do you have to wait before you can start ttc?
We were able to start as soon as my period came back.
5- How many miscarriages have you had before a healthy bfp if yet?
i had a chemical. no bfp...dont let this scare you. Please remeber the majority of the responses you are going to get on this board is from women who still have fertility issues. Only a few women who had babies come back to the board. So dont go by the statistics on this board.
6- Where you ever given a reason on why you had a m/c ?
chromosomal. They did genetic testing.
7 - Did any of you request for a 2nd sono just to make sure, right before your d&c?

we had one the day before and the doctor was very sure and the genetic testing backed it up.

Re: Room for 1 more?

I am so sorry for your loss. It's truly devastating and I feel terrible every time I see another woman join this board (and I have only been here a month!).

To answer your questions:

1- Did you miscarry on your own or did you have a d&c? I had a D&C.

2- How many days did you bleed for after the d&c? One week of bleeding then some brown spotting for another week.

3- Was it very painful after the d&c? No - I only had painful cramping the first day really then on and off but it was manageable.

4- Did you have your d&c in your docs office or the hospitol? Hospital.

4- How many cycles do you have to wait before you can start ttc? My doctor said she'd like me to wait 3 months/cycles.

5- How many miscarriages have you had before a healthy bfp if yet? This was my first BFP and first miscarriage but others have given me lots of hope that the next time could be the one.

6- Where you ever given a reason on why you had a m/c ? Nope. My tests were all great, I was feeling great, everything was completely perfect with me, so they said there was probably a chromosomal problem with the baby. Insurance won't pay for genetic testing until I have 3 losses because I am under 35, but if it happens again we'll pay out of pocket.

7 - Did any of you request for a 2nd sono just to make sure, right before your d&c? There was no need for me to. I could tell right away looking at the screen. Also my symptoms went away completely which is why I even went in a week earlier than scheduled for a sono. It just confirmed what I already felt. Chat Icon

These next few weeks will be incredibly hard, but I can say that by a month out I was feeling better. I will never be the same, and it definitely still catches up to me at times. Mostly now I am trying to prepare myself to start the process over again in another month or so. The ladies on here are great for support and encouragement!

I'm really sorry to read about your loss. I hope these answers help you...

I am so sorry for your loss. It's truly devastating and I feel terrible every time I see another woman join this board (and I have only been here a month!).

To answer your questions:

1- Did you miscarry on your own or did you have a d&c? I had a D&C scheduled but naturally m/c before the procedure. Ended up having a D&C as well to make sure everything was out

2- How many days did you bleed for after the d&c? About a week or so of bleeding and then spotting for another week and a half after that.

3- Was it very painful after the d&c? Not at all. It was uncomfy, but I didn't have cramps or anything. I slept a lot afterwards, but that might've been just the emotional toll.

4- Did you have your d&c in your docs office or the hospitol? Hospital.

4- How many cycles do you have to wait before you can start ttc? We were told after the 1st cycle, we could start trying again.

5- How many miscarriages have you had before a healthy bfp if yet? it was my first pregnancy, first m/c. Have only started TTC for about 2 months but hopefully will have a bfp soon.

6- Where you ever given a reason on why you had a m/c ? I was told I had a missed m/c and there wasn't any medical reason---sometimes it just happens. Had genetic testing done that showed everything was normal.

7 - Did any of you request for a 2nd sono just to make sure, right before your d&c? If I hadn't m/c at home, I definitely would've

1- Did you miscarry on your own or did you have a d&c? Both... i had an incomplete natural m/c

2- How many days did you bleed for after the d&c? i only had minor spotting for 2 or 3 days

3- Was it very painful after the d&c? - no, i was given a scrip for Tylenol with Codine... all i needed was Tylenol PM that night...

4- Did you have your d&c in your docs office or the hospitol? - In a Surgical Center, not a hospital

4- How many cycles do you have to wait before you can start ttc?

5- How many miscarriages have you had before a healthy bfp if yet? This was our first month trying since the D&C in April... idk if its a Healthy BFP yet, but its a BFP

6- Where you ever given a reason on why you had a m/c ? No, but progesterone issues and a Subchorionic Hematoma are believed to be the issues

7 - Did any of you request for a 2nd sono just to make sure, right before your d&c? mine wasnt a missed m/c so this doesnt really apply to me!

Re: Room for 1 more?

i am so deeply sorry for your loss. i wish we didn't have room for one more, and that could make it all go away and not have anyone have to endure this pain again. but, reality is what it is and of course, we are here to welcome you with the tightest of hugs Chat Icon

i had a similar situation as you - i went for a sono at 9 weeks, and there was no heartbeat. as far as the baby was measuring, it only stopped growing the day or two prior Chat Icon

1- i was given the option to wait to see if my body would recognize i was no longer pregnant (the doctor said that could happen within a couple of weeks) to miscarry on my own, if i so chose. for physical AND emotional reasons, i chose a d&c. the doctor added me onto his schedule the following afternoon. that was this past friday.

2- the d&c was less than a week ago, so i am still having some bleeding. the actual night of the d&c had the heaviest bleeding but even that, for me, wasn't even as heavy as a heavy period day. i've had some spotting each day since, and mostly when i go to the bathroom. i noticed more today than saturday thru yesterday, maybe because i actually started DOING stuff: running errands, working out etc, again yesterday.

3- physically, no i wouldn't say it was painful. some cramping that day and the following day, but it just felt like a period.

4- my d&c was in st charles hospital
- the doctor said that i just have to wait for my period, and then i can TTC again

5- i don't have an answer for this, it's too soon

6- i haven't gotten any results yet. i am assuming they will discuss it with me at my post-op sept 1st. the doctor said they send it out to... ctyology i believe he said. sometimes u get answers, sometimes u just don't. dh doesn't want to know; i'd prefer answers.

7- yes, i did request a second sono. i actually worked in that office for years in the past and the sono techs had been there before me, during me and since me, so i know they are good and the doctor trusts them 100%. still, i came home after my sono thursday night and talked to my mother and said, i'm not trying to be in denial and i'm SURE she's right, but just... what if she's not? what if she makes a mistake or something's off that one time, and you just go in and get a d&c?? she told me to express that to my doctor, and the next morning when i spoke to the girl who books the surgeries at the hospital, i did express that to her. she said i wasn't the 1st person to feel that way, and she could tell by my voice that i NEEDED another sono. they had me come on my way to the hospital that day for another sono. i was in and out and it was with a different sono tech. obviously, the 1st tech had been right - but it was what i needed to see for my own peace of mind. i'm not sure if i could have lived with myself questionning it otherwise. and i think if it's something you're thinking about, you should request the same. go with your gut and do what's right for YOU. you're the one that has to find peace with this however it may be.

i won't attempt to make you feel better, bc i know nothing anyone says or does right now, can. i am still in the grieving process and i still don't want to be around people, talk or do anything "normal". i still cry every day. the only people i really want to talk to at all is people who have been through it, because right now, i feel like they are the only ones that "get" it. however you feel, go with it. this is a grieving process, this is a tragic loss for you - just because your baby wasn't *here* doesn't make it your baby any less. i hope that with time, you make peace the best way you can; that you find a way to move forward; and that your stay here is a short one.
if you EVER need to talk, feel free to FM meChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

1- Did you miscarry on your own or did you have a d&c?

I had a missed miscarriage and had a D&C

2- How many days did you bleed for after the d&c?

About 2.5 weeks

3- Was it very painful after the d&c?

No but I had a prescription for percocet which I took anyway just to knock me out.

4- Did you have your d&c in your docs office or the hospitol?

Hospital

4- How many cycles do you have to wait before you can start ttc?

Three cycles

5- How many miscarriages have you had before a healthy bfp if yet?

1 and possibly a chemical

6- Where you ever given a reason on why you had a m/c ?

No. The genetic testing on baby came back normal. I also had testing done to see if there were any issues with me before trying to get pregnant again but they found nothing.

7 - Did any of you request for a 2nd sono just to make sure, right before your d&c?

No. We clearly saw the baby was still, no heartbeat. An image I wish I could forget

Again, I'm so sorry!

1- Did you miscarry on your own or did you have a d&c? I've had two m/c - one was with d&C, one on my own.

2- How many days did you bleed for after the d&c? 3/4 days heavily, then spotted for another week or two.

3- Was it very painful after the d&c? Not as painful as my natural m/c since they get everything out and when you naturally m/c your uteris has to contract to get it all out.

4- Did you have your d&c in your docs office or the hospitol? Hospital.

4- How many cycles do you have to wait before you can start ttc? With D&C they told me 3 cycles, with natural m/c they told me 2 cycles.

5- How many miscarriages have you had before a healthy bfp if yet? I had a m/c, then Chat Icon , then another m/c.

6- Where you ever given a reason on why you had a m/c ? No Chat Icon

7 - Did any of you request for a 2nd sono just to make sure, right before your d&c? They did it automatically as part of their procedure.

Re: Room for 1 more?

I had a miscarriage in March. I went for my first sono at 9 weeks and everything was measuring at about 5.5 weeks, no heartbeat or anything.

1- Did you miscarry on your own or did you have a d&c?

had a d&c

2- How many days did you bleed for after the d&c?

I didn't really bleed immediately after, it started two days later and lasted about a week and a half, no worse than a regular period and not painful.

3- Was it very painful after the d&c?

I was in a little pain right after (like when I woke up) but as soon as I got up and peed the pain went away immediately. The nurse said that was typical. I had no other pain.

4- Did you have your d&c in your docs office or the hospitol?

I had mine done at Good Sam and they were absolutely wonderful.

4- How many cycles do you have to wait before you can start ttc?

My doctor told me to wait 2-3 cycles. I followed his advice. I know all doctors are different though so speak to your doctor about it.

5- How many miscarriages have you had before a healthy bfp if yet?

I have one son and my second pregnancy was the miscarriage. I haven't gotten pregnant again, but we are now actively trying.

6- Where you ever given a reason on why you had a m/c ?

No and I opted not to have testing done.

7 - Did any of you request for a 2nd sono just to make sure, right before your d&c?

My doctor made me wait a week and repeat bloodwork and a sono just to make sure I wasn't calculating wrong. I knew I didn't but he just wanted to make sure.

I am so sorry for your loss. Physically, the D&C was not a big deal at all for me. I hope it is an easy process for you too.

Hi Girls

I had my d&c this morningChat Icon . I went in for a sono before the procedure just to confirm, and the sac was empty... but like you all said, the procedure itself really was not that bad. They had me waiting forever ( 1 1/2 hrs), so the anticipation was killing me. I did fine with the anesthesia which I was so scared about since I never had it before. They are not going to send the tissue out for results since it's my first m/c and insurance won't cover it. Chat Icon

I go for a check up in 2 weeks. Other than that, physically I feel pretty normal and am not bleeding at the moment. I hope my period comes on time so we can get back to business soon. I just get so upset everytime I think that I had to send my baby to the nursery in heaven. Hopefully things will work out next time, as for the rest of you wonderful ladies. Chat Icon

Thank you all for your help and support over the past few days. You all really helped me understand what this is all about. I look forward to chatting with you all and hopefully all of us moving on to the pregnancy boards soon !Chat Icon
