And to top it off Trumps tweet about it made it all about him!
What Roseanne said was stupid, disgusting and unforgivable. I liked the show, but can't really blame ABC for canceling it. Yeah it was racist. Without question.
I think why people bring up the View is not to justify what she did, but to show the double standard of how different celebrities are treated. Joy Behar outwardly says how much she hates Christians. Jimmy Kimmell makes fun of Melania's accent. Why are these things not hate speech? Why is that OK without any outrage?

I can’t soeak to Joy’s situation since I don’t watch, but I think tone and intent is the difference. Jimmy Kimmel is a comedians and he’s telling jokes. Rosanne has been spewing crazy BS on Twitter for a while and none of them are jokes. Roseanne’s intent is racism - not to be funny or bc she was on Ambian.

I agree to me its the same. Also Roseanne is a comedian.
I don't disagree with the actions taken by ABC. But I don't believe Roseanne is racist. Stupid and supports a moron, but not racist.
I hate that she ruined it because I liked that the show was talking about the election and what happened in middle America, shedding light on how a lot of people really view muslims, having an interracial granddaughter that actually looked predominantly black.

Rosanne's tweet was definitely racist and so stupid of her to do. She deserved to have her show cancelled. I do though think it is a little overkill to pull all the original reruns. If we pulled every show where someone said something stupid, there would be nothing to watch. As someone else mentioned, I think they are throwing the View out there in comparison because there is rarely a day that Joy doesn't say something nasty or mean spirited. It's not even fun to watch anymore because she made it so negative.

I know you weren’t, I was just stating that it was my opinion meaning I can be totally wrong.
I don’t agree with your last comment. I don’t think a racist comment automatically makes someone a racist. Which is why I am not totally convinced she is a racist.
Roseanne’s show which was her show had more representation of minorities than Friends. I am talking about minority’s having major roles. Meanwhile Friends took place in NYC, the melting pot.

Context. I think it comes down to context.
The View and Jimmy Kimmel are paid to be edgy, push the envelope and ruffle feathers within the context of their jobs. Roseanne went off the rails in an unfiltered tweet saying something completely racist in nature. To liken that to what's said on The View or Late Night makes no sense to me. Had she made a political joke (minutes the racism) on her show, it would have been better received.
Turning the attention to The View is classic distraction technique. Let's keep the focus on the person who thinks it's acceptable to liken an African American woman to an ape. There is no gray area here, she was wrong and should be held accountable. She KNOWS she was wrong too which is why she's scrambling for a scapegoat.

If Roseanne the character had said her biracial granddaughter was a product of Planet of the Apes on the show would it be considered funny?
I disagree that it's a double standard. I think if Joy Behar or Kimmel had made the same comment they would've been fired too. Roseanne isn't the first celebrity to lose their livelihood over racist comments. This isn't the first time Roseanne has pulled this kind of crap. She was told to knock it off but she kept crossing the line "for laughs". The problem now is that she's doubling down on her crazy instead of just going away. Does she think retweeting photoshopped pics of Whoopi Goldberg is actually helping her case?

Anyone that lives in this country should know that referring to black people as apes is the lowest you can go.
Part of the polarization that has taken place in the last 18 months is the difference in opinions of what words or actions are considered racist. We all have biases no one can deny that. Its the awareness and mindfulness of it that matters.
Want to add that I am not an expertt on the actual definition of the word racism just know that it equals disliking, i.e hatred (in any form) of people because of their race, religion, ethnicity or country of origin.
But I do not know if you have to self-identify as a racist like you would as an alcoholic or transgender person. I mean I could deny I am an alcoholic but people who know me could say I am based on my actions right?
This is where the discussion should be at at this point. If people cant understand that equating a black person to subhuman is bad and have to bring up distractions we have a major problem.
Someone on FB equated roseannes comment with “but what about celebrities that refer to trump as an orangutan or cheeto?” Yes thats immature and wrong/unnecessary but still not the same.

I thought I read they gave her warnings to not post stuff on twitter and she did anyway.
I debate if people are uptight now OR people are finally realizing it was never right to say things to begin with. Listen I crack some jokes that people will probably say is inappropriate but I don't go around just saying them or posting it on social media. I am not racist, sexist etc.
I also believe its context, I think saying a racial, sexist , religious etc joke during a move, comedy show, or tv show is one thing and only to ceartin degree is seen as OK because people see it has part of a the act. I think when done over the internet people don't know if its a joke and really should anyone be trying to do comedy act over twitter probably not. Also it seems to be Ok to make fun of your own race more then its OK to make fun of others.
I don't watch the view so I have no idea what bad things they say that people are saying its not fair.
I will say its definitely not clear on what is OK to say or what is taken to far. To me it seems it all depends on if someone decides to make big deal about it and it they get more people behind them then its a big deal.
