ruling out names you otherwise love because of initials or last names?
have any of you ruled out a name you otherwise loved because DC would end up with terrible initials, or because the pairing didnt work with your last name?
Think: Julia Gulia or Ben Dover
I have some friends with pretty awful initials but wouldn't want to do that to my DC... we ruled out a first name I loved before I was married because I can't bear to burden a child with that name given our last name.

Our last name is one syllable and begins with a D. DH did not and does not want a one syllable name and a name that begins with D..for instance, I loved the name Daniella for a girl..but it does sound dumb with our last name...

Yes, I am very picky with this. Our last name ends in -er so I ruled out all names ending in -er... which was hard because those seem to be all the names my DH liked. I also don't like names that sound like my sons name (Landon) so all names ending in -an, -en, -in, -on were ruled out. Initials weren't a problem with the names we chose.

I think about this a lot. I guess being a teacher doesn't help matters either. I am very picky with initials and how names go together.

Yes. My FIL was always asking what the initials would be. His are HEB and he was teased a lot about it growing up since he's Jewish.

Some immature (but loving) people joked that his last name is Utsecks.

I did this too! I kept thinking of Roger Federer- too many ers!!! My last name also starts with an S so I didnt like names that ended in an S- like James because it sounded to much like one name combined

I always wanted to name a daughter Isabella. Well, I went and married someone who's name is F-----nella. That would be cruel I think so, no Izzy for me. =(

Not initials (though I would avoid obviously bad initials), but there are some names that rhymed with my last name that we couldn't use, though they were never "serious" contenders anyway.

Our last name ends in "i" so I ruled out anything that would shorten to a nickname that ends in "y" because of the rhyming factor. Just not my cup of tea.

Yea, I'm big on that, because DH's last name ends with a P. I wanted Isabelle Christine for this baby, but no way am I letting her initials be ICP.  We are having issues coming up with a middle name because either we can't agree or it doesn't work with his last name/the initials.

Yes.
My favorite girl name is Lila but I can't use it because our last name starts with an "L" too (my own first name is Lenore and I really hate having LL intials (plus my last name make it sound like a porno name ).
Also, our last name has ssssssss'ssss so I cut Elise.

I have this same problem - love the name Tess - too cruel to pair it with Te****esta. Ah well. We actually came up with quite a few rules. My name is super long - never fits on a form - I hate it, so I wanted something short and sweet. Also, can't end in -a since that won't sound nice with out last name - too much alliteration for me. Once we settled on Lucy, we then had rules for the middle name to add - didn't want a double -i or -y ending - had to be a hard consonant and still have a ring with Lucy and our last name. Also, we wanted it to be sort of an adult name - a back-up if you will since Lucy's very cute, but who knows how DD will feel about it... and so Elizabeth it was - gives her a good option I think and sounds nice altogether.

My parents apparently didn't think of that when they named me. My maiden name started with a D. First name - Vanessa.
Our last name rhymes with "Willy". Growing up, I always wanted a to name my daughter Lilly. Well, that went out the window - I couldn't do that to a child (we ended up with a son anyway ) - our dog's name is now Lilly.. Adorable for a dog, not so much for a child.

My husband used to work with someone whose name was David David. As in First Name David and Last Name David. True story- I was in his office and saw the guy's name plate that people have by their offices and cubes.
Now that's whose parents should have rulled out a name!
