Runners: another race day question re: clothing
The 5k I am doing is next Saturday. It should be 70ish.
I bought running shorts at Old Navy. Nice and comfy and not too short so I don't feel like a whale But, They have a built in panty (so do the ones that DH bought). Do you wear underwear also? I do and I am fine but, DH wears boxers and is all bunched up. Are we doing this wrong
And tops... what do you recommend? I have sports bras and t shirts... But, I don't know if should wear a t? I have a ton of those spandexy spaghetti strap cami... would that work? Or should I just buck up and buy a running shirt? What kinds do you like?
* I don't want to spend a ton since this is our first 5k. I think we will continue running after this but, for now I just want to focus on the 5k and I refuse to think about after that. We did the C25K (week 8 almost done!!) and quite literally went from "couch" so doing this is a HUGE accomplishment. Although I am pretty sure I will be fine I am really nervous that if I am not feeling 100% that day that I won't do well. So I don't want plan for after that until I see how we do. So I don't want to invest much more money than we already have into this (jogging stroller, new sneakers for both us, running shorts and the c25k apps)
TIA

Re: Runners: another race day question re: clothing
I always wear underwear, even if its built into the shorts. Maybe your dh could try boxer briefs, those would probably be more comfortable. As far as a top goes...I would stay away from cotton...the tanks you described would be fine. Or, if you want to buy a running shirt (that has the moisture wicking), try Marshalls. They have all name brands and can be as little as $10 - $15 dollars. I have so many from there!
Congrats on completing C25K!! Its a huge accomplishment and you are going to have so much fun at the race, enjoy every second!

I agree on all points! Marshalls and TJ Maxx have great inexpensive running clothing.
They do give out a nice shirt with your packet too, last year it was short sleeve moisture wicking. You may want to wear that. I'm actually not 100% sure its the same shirt for the 5k as the 10k/half/full. maybe someone else can confirm.

What have you been wearing for your training runs? Wear that. Whatever you are most comfortable in is what you should wear. There's no right or wrong and you will see people in a variety of different styles.

Re: Runners: another race day question re: clothing
Wearing underwear or not is up to you and however you feel most comfortable. I have done both. As for guys, my DH wears tighty whities when he runs. I know that is not sexy, but he says it keeps everything where it needs to be and they do not ride up.
As for running tops - I did not always have nice running tees or tanks, but I have accumulated many from races and as gifts. At first, I was just wearing Old Navy ribbed tank tops. If it is going to be in the 70s - I would definitely be wearing a tank though - I sweat a lot. No one is going to say anything if you do not have the "right" clothes. I have seen people wearing jeans while running races...

you can also go to a running/sports store - they usually have a clearance section. I have found a lot of good buys doing that.
