I wouldn't call it a ban...she's British and her books are set in the UK - she wanted authentic English actors...not some American who was going to chop-job the language (ie: Renee Zelwegger).
However, I'd boycott the movies based on the terrible acting! 
I just feel like she's discriminating against Americans based on national origin (which is a protected class in the employment arena). There are many great actors who could have done a wonderful job. Some even VOLUNTEERED to do it. Instead, she payed some crappy people to do it instead.
But, I have my HR hat on again.

Kate Hudson is another one who hates americans...
Rowlings motives have nothing to do with American hatered. She is British, the characters are British and she wanted to hire actual Brits. It seems to make sense to me to want to help the actors of your country. It is actually not uncommon in the entertainment industry.

Kate Hudson compared Americans to the French when filming Le Divorce, she said Americans were loud. She said French restaurants are so enjoyable compared to America's. In america we are like Hey do you have any ketcup? I heard the interview on Howard.

I am a woman. I want to open a business selling women's clothing. So, I only hire women, not only to work in the fitting room, but to stock shelves, ring up sales, and even clean the windows.

I know they don't have to adhere to the same rules.
BUT, a talented American actor could very easily assimilate the accent, dress, and style of a Brit.
Aside from that, there is a remake of the Honeymooners with African American actors- which had an all white cast originally.
I just feel very strongly that someone's national origin, color, or religion should NOT affect their ability to work- either here, or elsewhere in any field.

Anyway - I see your point...but I don't agree with it in this instance. I thought it was refreshing that actual Brit's were used...the adults were great in the movies - it's the kids that stink, imo.

While I agree with you in principle I think that this issue is slightly different for me. If there are just as capable actors (which Maggie Smith, Allen Rickman, the late Richard Harrison are ) that are actually British why not cast them.
When the show "Boy from Oz" was being cast they insisted that the actor playing Peter Allen be Aussie because he was an Aussie.
The director of the Lord of the Ring films insisted that the movies be filmed in his homeland of New Zealand.
I assume that just like we are proud to be Americans these people are proud of their heritage. I think that they are just trying to honor their home and give a boost to their economy.

Hey sometimes I hate us too....there were these loud obnoxious children running all over the restaurant DH and I were in last night. The parents didn't chase after them it was the waitress or Hostess that retuned the children (3 of them) to their idiot parents at least 10 times! And the noise they made
Then the mother had the nerve to tell the host when he asked them to keep an eye on their kids, "Enough! I don't want to hear anything from you" When they left they nearly got a standing ovation, people were clapping and cheering

I agree. Thinking of Americans from the viewpoint of another country or someone of another nationality, we do always expect people to know our language, currency, etc., and to feed us a hot dog or hamburger whatever country we are in. Of course we aren't all like that, but having been in other countries I was so embarrassed at the actions of other Americans.

Ralph Cramden became know as a white man because the original actor was white (of course back then everyone on TV was white). It is not a racially or nationality specific role. My comment is not about roles that are being looked at from a different perspective. You would not have Tom Cruise playing Malcom X. You would not have Denzel Washington playing Nixon. Also, sometimes a writer writes a part with a specific race in mind. Examples..... Woody Harrelson's role in Natural Born Killers. Stone wanted the actor to be a white male because most serial killers in our society fall into that category. Another example, Spike Lee is a director that writes movies that often focus on the African American community, therefore he casts AA in those roles because they were written for them.
Now, the statement about Kate Hudson. So what, she likes France. I like Canada. It is clean and yes, quiet. Am I proud to be an American...... you bet. America is great, but the attitude of not being able to appreciate other countries and how they differ from us I don't understand.

I actually think the acting is quite good.
And as for butchering accents...well, plenty of Brits think Renee Zellweger did a great job and you can imagine what it would mean to fill those shoes - Bridget Jones is like a British National treasure, so for an American actress to play her...it's like a Brit playing Lucy Arnaz or somethign.... And as someone who lives in Britain, I can tell you that she did a lot of the subtleties of the accent justice!

Well that's a stereotype if I ever heard one!!! If Russel Crowe said that he hates Americans - that doesn't mean that all of Australia hates us...in fact I'm sitting across from an Australian right now and we get along just fine!
That is such a narrowminded attitude!!!!
