Re: S. Nassau, Winthrop or mercy- Which woud you pick??
I delivered at South Nassau and loved it. The nurses are great. I also enjoyed having a bigger room all to myself. It was easier during visiting hours and to bond with my baby.

Re: S. Nassau, Winthrop or mercy- Which woud you pick??
I delivered at Winthrop and had a great experience. I chose Winthrop for the NICU (I was not a high risk pregnancy, but I work in a hospital and know anything can happen so I was more comfortable with the NICU at Winthrop)
Little did I know I would end up with a complicated delvery and DS spending a week in the NICU. The NICU nurses were amazing! My L&D nurses were great and the maternity nurses were too.

Re: S. Nassau, Winthrop or mercy- Which woud you pick??
I actually had a great delivery experience at Mercy. My baby was in the NICU due to a fever, and I was impressed. The LDR nurses were awesome, as were the maternity nurses. My sister delivered three times there, and loved it.
That said, I am high-risk at the moment (31 weeks), so I will be deliverying at Winthrop this time.

Re: S. Nassau, Winthrop or mercy- Which woud you pick??
South Nassau, hands down.
I had DS1 at Winthrop and wasn't happy with the experience (even though I specifically picked my doctor because I wanted have my baby at Winthrop since everyone says it's the best). They were extremely busy and nothing was done in a timely manner...I ended up with a c-section after 28 hours of labor (my water broke but no contractions, so they had to induce me), and who knows if I would've had the same outcome anyway but *everything* they did was delayed because they were so busy. From putting the cervadil in, to checking my progress, to the pitocin and the epidural, even having someone get me Tylenol to bring down my *99 degree* fever in recovery so I could see my baby (didn't end up seeing him until five hours after he was born), everything was seriously slow going. When your water breaks, you're on the clock, so it's frustrating to think you're not being given your best chance at a natural birth because they're not being timely with the induction.
I didn't find the nurses to be very helpful (probably because they were very busy) and there was one lactation consultant on duty, so you couldn't get more than two minutes with her.
I had DS2 at South Nassau, and it was a pleasant experience from beginning to end. It was so much quieter, and I got so much personal attention. It's even nicer now with the new labor & delivery/maternity wing and every room is private and so lovely. Granted, I had a scheduled c-section with my second so the whole birth part was a little less chaotic, so I'm not comparing apples to apples. But in general, I had a much nicer experience at South Nassau. I've had friends who've loved Winthrop though. It's all up to individual experience, I guess!

I also delivered at Winthrop and loved the nurses there too. I would definitely go there if I were having another baby.

I love Mercy!
Me too. My friend just had a baby and she was preemie. Had she delivered at Mercy the baby wouldnt have had to be moved and she regrets this so much. My doc is affiliated with all 3 hospitals and he chose for me to deliver there. So Mercy all the way--even Dr. Colantonio the famous whistle blower said it has one of the best maternity wards

IMO that is no contest S. Nassau...
the place is GORGEOUS. I have had friends in both winthrop and S. Nassau IMO is like the country club of hospitals.
Cosmetically of course South Nassau would win, it should afterall the unit is much newer however overall I find their technology is still behind most hospitals Their NICU is only a level 2 so they do not deal with high risk pregnancies too often, they usually get transferred to Winthrop. So if you are a low risk pregnancy looking to deliver in a country club environment then South Nassau would be your choice. If any issues arise with you or your baby you're going to want to deliver at Wintrhop.
Just wanted to add I cannot comment about Mercy because I am not familiar.
I can relate with this--having a preemie myself my doc chose Mercy over Winthrop because of a certain vent Mercy has for preemies. After the pregnancy I had I am glad my doc convinced me to go where I did.
