And I will leave with this -- something my great Aunt Mary used to always say -- she was a woman who came from nothing and ended up running a huge Fortune 500 company - in a generation where most women were typists. She is amazing but she always reminded me, there will ALWAYS be someone who makes more than you. There will ALWAYS be someone who has more than you. You can't look at it like that. You need to just love yourself and be happy for others.

Of course I realize that it's a reality. I'm not stupid.
Why am I being attacked for trying to be compassionate? Jesus.
Well, I can't speak for anyone else but I'm certainly not trying to attack you and wasn't trying to attack you with what I wrote above. I just wanted to give a different and more positive perspective on it -- just to try and be open minded and accepting of others regardless of if they have more or make more. We are women - what we are doing in this day and age in comparison with how our mother's and grandmother's grew up is nothing short of AMAZING. It really is.
I agree. When I hear of women making so much, it makes me VERY happy to see what kind of world my DD (if I have one) will be working in. This is what previous generations of women were working so hard for. We have CHOICES now, we can CHOSE to be a SAHM, or we can CHOSE to work and where we work.

For the record, I make WELL over $250x as a hand model. I keep my hands in tip top shape by wearing oven mitts and avoiding hot irons.
Same. Except I'm a foot model. I took a big hit back in '07 when a fungus hit, but luckily I had money saved in a rainy day fund for emergencies such as that.

I think there is a big diff between 50 & 99, but less of a diff between 100 and 149, but that's just my opinion.

I just feel like these threads end up making someone feel bad if they aren't making in the higher end of the salary spectrum.
Some people choose lucrative careers, others don't. Salary is no indication of someone's ability to have a family. Kids are expensive no matter what you earn.
I don't know why it would make someone feel bad - we all know some people make more than others. People make different choices in life - some choose to stay home with their kids, and others choose to work. Those who choose to work also make choices. Do you not think that the people who make a lot make a lot of sacrifices to earn that money? I'm not saying where I fall in the poll, but I went to years of grad school to get an advanced degree, and commute to the city and work long hours.
While salary has no bearing on someone's physical ability to have kids, it is a factor to me in deciding how many kids we will have. I am pregnant with DC3 and I need to pay for child care for her, clothe her, feed her, and eventually send her to school, camp, etc. All of that stuff costs money!

Yes, there will ALWAYS be someone who has more than you, is prettier than you, is thinner than you, etc, b/c I'm not sure if we need monthly LIF polls to point this out to us

Some people choose lucrative careers, others don't. Salary is no indication of someone's ability to have a family. Kids are expensive no matter what you earn.
No one needs to know what I make, and I don't need to know what others make. At the end of the day, who cares?
The 'who cares' always gets me, because lots and lots of people care - as in they're curious, not that it actually affects their life one way or the other. But social media wouldn't be what it is if we weren't interested in what others have going on. Not that anyone NEEDS to know, but come on, lots of people are interested. If you don't want to share, you don't have to.
This thread shouldn't make anyone feel bad. If you're earning at the lower end of the scale, you already know you're there. This thread is probably not the first indication of that. Besides, earning more money doesn't mean you're not broke... no one is asking about debt to income ratio.
I always like to know what careers are higher paying, because I'm probably not going to do what I'm doing forever and I certainly wouldn't want to switch to a lower paying field.
This was my point. Its not about comparing....rather its not about "who does better".
I can guarantee the stay at home mom who suffered infertility, or waited 5 years to have the child she always wanted feels her life is amazing (she does "better") to mine, where I have a 2 hour commute every day.
I don't measure success by how much you make. And I'm not asking anyone else either.
When I made 40k in retail I did great. I had a small apartment. Car. SMALL vacations. but I was happy. I was successful in what I did.
Its interesting to see the barometer of salary for women. Frankly with the glass ceiling I think this is something we should share (In general like on this poll).
Knowledge is power. That's what this poll is about.

I swear to you, I remember a poll here, years ago, asking people where they thought they ranked in attractiveness. Like do you consider yourself:
A- Gorgeous B- Beautiful C- Pretty D- Attractive E- Average F- Unattractive G- Ugly as sin
I swear i am not making this up

50k is 50k....if you make 100k and I make 150k I still make 50k more same as 50k vs. 100k, tax implications aside

FYI: I almost didnt click on this thread because I am not a parent, may not ever be a parent and usually don't look at that board.. Any chance you could revise the title to add "Poll"?
FWIW, I am also on the higher side and I think its really wonderful that women continue to break glass ceilings every year in almost every profession. I cant wait to see a female POTUS in my lifetime!

S/O of a question on Parenting board
I don't look at this thread as comparing and making people feel bad.....the other poll people were asking what type of positions were on the higher end. I see it as people being curious cause maybe they are thinking about career changes and looking at what salaries are out there.
The only person who can make you feel bad about yourself is you. We all need to be proud about what we do....

i'm at the very bottom of the spectrum. i know many women who make more than me (dh's cousin is an accountant, SIL is a pathologist assistant, cousin's wife is a lawyer, etc.etc. etc.)
i agree salary is no indication of their life. I would never switch with any of them.
however, i DO care. I like to see when someone says they work the same job I do but make 10K more. It doesn't make me feel bad. IF anything, it motivates me to be brave and ask for that raise that I know I deserve. It also gives me hope that If I look for a new job, I won't be getting less, but possibly more.

S/O of a question on Parenting board
i love seeing women doing so well!
even if it's for diapers. well is relative.
i see it more of an encouragement, not a comparison.
positively awesome to know my Island Lady-neighbors are cha-chinging 6 figure incomes.
it gives me hope!
i want sooo badly to ask for more money at work. i know i deserve it, but i am also working part time because my kids are so young. and part of me feels like i'm being paid in flexibility in schedule.
so seeing ladies making more moolah is a HUGE encouragement for me.
thanks to all who are sharing. i'm at $35 an hour managing a little bit of everything for a small company part time.

$35 / hour would be a nice bump for me, I'm at $25 / hour (though salaried, so after how many hours I work it ends up being even less). I should be making more but I too feel that I'm being compensated by flexibility (which is really non-existent, hence why I'm looking elsewhere).
